  • [Dataviz] If You Have 40 KPIs, You Have 0 Strategy. Aurélien Vautier

Data analysts: STOP questioning yourself when you receive a 40+ KPI dashboard request. Question the brief and the user’s understanding of the problem first. KPIs are everywhere. Dashboards, reports, reviews. Yet the confusion persists. Metric = KPI Indicator = KPI Measure = KPI Score = KPI At some point, KPI just becomes "a number we display". Then the list grows. 10. 25. 50... Tracking everything feels safe. Calling everything key feels strategic. But when everything is key, nothing is. And that is not a data problem. It is a shared responsibility problem. If you want to share the high-resolution cheatsheet internally with your team, comment "KPI Inflation" no I'm kidding... just add me here on LinkedIn and get in touch : Aurélien Vautier If you want to grab this kind of cheatsheet for your own use, I share them through my newsletter every Tuesday. • [Digital Transformation] Everyone Wants Chapter 9. Nobody Wants to Finish Chapter 2. Jeff Winter

Ahhh… just sat down on the beach to relax and dig into a few good books… Brought five. Will probably read one and a half. But I like knowing the other three are there. 😀 And it hit me... we all love the idea of becoming smarter more than we love doing the work that makes us smarter. Manufacturing does this with technology. We collect ideas the same way: • AI agents. • LLM-based chatbots • Unified namespace. • Digital twins. • Industrial data fabrics. • Platform ecosystems. We bring them all to the beach. And just like vacation reading, owning the idea feels productive long before doing the work. Most companies don’t struggle because they don’t know what’s possible. They struggle because they try to start Chapter 9 before finishing Chapter 2. You don’t need predictive AI if your asset registry is inconsistent across plants. You don’t need an “intelligent factory layer” if engineering and operations can’t agree on part definitions. You don’t need autonomous decision loops if no one has clearly defined who is allowed to override them. The future is very exciting. We’re attracted to what looks advanced. But standardization is not. We hesitate on what requires discipline. Yet every serious industrial company that scales performance does the same things: • They reduce system variability. • They define ownership clearly. • They simplify their stack. • They treat architecture like a strategic asset, not an IT afterthought. There’s nothing wrong with being drawn to new information. That curiosity is healthy. Just don’t confuse being informed with being ready. Sometimes the smartest move isn’t chasing the next breakthrough. It’s making sure the basics aren’t broken. ******************************************* • Visit www.jeffwinterinsights.com for access to all my content and to stay current on Industry 4.0 and other cool tech trends • Ring the 🔔 for notifications!

Understanding LTE Architecture – A Quick Overview LTE (4G) is built on a smart, layered architecture that enables fast data, efficient spectrum use, and seamless mobility. Here’s a simplified breakdown: 1️⃣ UE Protocol Stack (Device Side) Communication from the User Equipment (UE) uses layered protocols: • PHY – Radio transmission over the air • MAC – Scheduling and multiplexing • RLC – Reliable data transfer • PDCP – Encryption and header compression • RRC – Controls signaling with the base station • NAS – Communicates with the core network (mobility & sessions) Together, these layers enable secure and efficient wireless communication. ⸻ 2️⃣ eNodeB (Base Station) The LTE base station (eNodeB) handles: • Radio Resource Management (RRM) • Scheduling & QoS • Admission control • Handover decisions It connects to the core network via: • S1-MME (Control Plane) • S1-U (User Plane) ⸻ 3️⃣ Control Plane vs User Plane • Control Plane (CP) → Signaling (authentication, session setup, mobility) • User Plane (UP) → Actual user data (internet, video, voice) This separation improves scalability and efficiency. ⸻ 4️⃣ Core Network (EPC) LTE’s core, called Evolved Packet Core (EPC), includes: • MME – Signaling & mobility management • SGW – Routes user data • PGW – Connects to the Internet & assigns IP addresses • HSS – Subscriber database User data travels using GTP-U tunneling between eNodeB, SGW, and PGW. ⸻ 5️⃣ Mobility & RRM • Cell Reselection – UE selects a better cell (idle mode) • Handover – Network-controlled cell change (connected mode) Radio Resource Management (RRM) is the core function of the base station: • Admission control • Scheduling • Power control • Interference management • QoS enforcement ⸻ Why LTE Architecture Matters LTE is designed for: • High-speed data • Efficient spectrum use • Seamless mobility • Scalable, IP-based networking #LTE #4G #LTEArchitecture #Telecom #WirelessCommunication #MobileNetworks #EPC #eNodeB #RRM #CoreNetwork #RadioNetwork #GTPU #MME #SGW #PGW #HSS #RFEngineering #NetworkEngineering #Telecommunications #MobilityManagement

Someone in our community shared a Windows tip I hadn't seen before. Hover over a folder in File Explorer and click the middle mouse button. It opens that folder in a new tab instantly. No right-click menu, no dragging. That one came from a comment. Here are five more I use all the time: → Win + E: open File Explorer (repeat to open another window) → Ctrl + N: open the current folder in a new window → Ctrl + T: open a new tab (Windows 11) → Ctrl + Tab: switch between tabs → Ctrl + W: close a tab or window What's your favorite File Explorer shortcut that more people should know? 👇
