Current Job Title (1 second) Use the industry-standard title, not your company's creative version. ❌ "Customer Happiness Guru" ✅ "Customer Success Manager" 2. Company Names (1 second) If your company isn't well-known, add context. ❌ "Acme Corp" ✅ "Acme Corp (B2B SaaS, 200+ employees)" 3. First Bullet Point (2 seconds) This gets the LONGEST look. Lead with your biggest, most quantified achievement. ❌ "Responsible for managing customer accounts" ✅ "Grew account retention from 78% to 94%, reducing churn by $1.2M annually" This is the most important line on your resume. 4. Skills Section (1 second) List 8-12 relevant skills that match the job description. Skip the soft skills. ❌ "Microsoft Office, Team Player, Problem Solving" ✅ "Python, SQL, Tableau, Salesforce, Google Analytics, A/B Testing" 5. Education (1 second) Just checking the baseline.     5 job search habits keeping you stuck. 🚫 You learned these when the market was different. Time to delete them: The job search advice you're following is outdated. Most of it was written for a market that no longer exists. Here's what to delete — and what to do instead. ❌ Habit 1: Applying to dozens of jobs daily The spray-and-pray method tanks your quality. ATS systems flag incomplete or generic applications. Recruiters notice rushed cover letters. ✅ Replace with: 5-10 highly targeted applications with tailored resumes and real research. ❌ Habit 2: Checking job boards manually You're always late. By the time you see it, hundreds have already applied. ✅ Replace with: Real-time alerts by company, role, and salary. Be notified the moment it drops. ❌ Habit 3: Sending one resume everywhere A resume for a marketing role is not the same as a resume for a product role — even if you've done both. ✅ Replace with: A master resume you tailor in 5 minutes per application, highlighting what's relevant. ❌ Habit 4: Skipping the hiring manager research You're applying blind. The fix — The Impact Swap: For every bullet, ask: what changed because I was there? ❌ Before: "Responsible for customer onboarding" ✅ After: "Onboarded 40+ enterprise clients, cutting time-to-value from 3 weeks to 9 days" Swap one duty dump per session. Do it in 5 minutes. Move on. 🔇 Silent Killer #2: The Generic Summary Opening with "results-driven professional with strong communication skills" tells a recruiter nothing. The fix — The Stranger Test: Ask: if a stranger read this cold, would they know what I do, at what level, and why I'm good at it? ❌ Before: "Experienced professional with a track record of success" ✅ After: "Product designer who shipped 6 zero-to-one features at two Series B startups in 5 years" Rewrite your summary until it passes the Stranger Test. 🔇 Silent Killer #3: Inconsistent Tailoring The same resume, sent to every job, never quite fitting any of them. The fix — The First Bullet Rule: For every application, update the first bullet of your most recent role to directly mirror the job description's top priority. That's it. One bullet. Not a full rewrite. ❌ Before: Same generic first bullet sent everywhere ✅ After: First bullet written to reflect the specific impact that role cares most about Here's the truth: None of these fixes require starting over. They require looking at what you already have — and making it specific. Specificity is the cure for all three killers.
