"The future can't be predicted, but it can be envisioned and brought lovingly into being." — Donella Meadows. Because complex systems are non-linear and self-organizing, precise forecasting is a fantasy. Instead of striving for perfect prediction, we should engage with our communities to collaboratively design the systems and values that shape a desirable future. Want to make a real impact? "It is not enough to engage in an undisciplined use of select system concepts... if the goal is to understand complex problems and engage in innovative social problem solving." — Jay Wright Forrester. Picking superficial systems concepts like 'boundaries' or 'relationships' without rigorous methodological application strips systems thinking of its diagnostic power. Practitioners must ground their interventions in structured methodologies, utilizing precise modeling to safely test the counterintuitive behaviors of complex dynamics. Systems thinking is the key to sustainable solutions. Discover how at https://lnkd.in/gk_Sbua9 #SystemDynamics #SystemsModeling #RigorousPractice #SocialProblemSolving

Systems Thinking Alliance reposted this
Zainab Zaidi and Nooriya Zaidi are representing Mount Royal University at the Map the System Global Finals at Oxford University in July. Their research dived into the deterioration of Alberta's public health care, focusing on its differential impacts across communities and the roles of key stakeholders, including policymakers, healthcare workers, patients, and private providers. The study employed a qualitative, systems-based approach, synthesizing reports, policy analyses, and recent literature to identify structural trends over time. Findings indicate that persistent systemic pressures-- such as workforce shortages, funding constraints, and fragmented coordination-- have contributed to declining access and longer wait times.

We expect instant gratification from our interventions, but complex systems have incredibly slow reflexes. Patience is not just a leadership virtue; it is a structural and strategic necessity. #Structure #SystemsThinking

"The only way you are really in control is if the system is in control, and every holon and employee is doing what they should do." — William Donaldson. Micro-management at the executive level creates a bottleneck that stifles organizational viability and adaptive capacity. True strategic control is achieved by designing an Enterprise Management System where decentralized autonomy is balanced with cohesive, shared purpose. Systems thinking empowers you to see the bigger picture and drive meaningful change.
