Proud to see Deepnight on the NatSec100 this year alongside so many game changing companies! Fun fact- Deepnight is one of 3 companies that raised less than $20M and on the list. Congrats to the team- this is just the beginning! Sugar Free Capital Jack Pan

The 2026 NatSec100 Report is out! Now in its fourth iteration, the NatSec100 has become a trusted, data-driven view into the companies shaping the future of national security technology. This year’s report captures a market entering a new phase. NatSec innovation is no longer measured only by promise and private capital raised. Therefore, we are answering the harder question of which companies are translating that momentum into durability, adoption, and operational impact. For the first time, the 2026 NatSec100 incorporates government contracting activity directly into the ranking methodology, powered by data from Pryzm. That addition gives us a clearer view of which companies are building, selling, and delivering for the mission. It allowed us to have improved analysis and recommendations for how to keep the momentum going in a period of heightened innovation. Thank you to J.P. Morgan, our 2026 NatSec100 title sponsor, and to Pryzm for helping bring this year’s analysis to life. • Thrilled to partnering with the Deepnight team. When people ask us what we mean by founders with “technical depth” and doing the impossible- this is it. Sheena Jindal Jack Pan

Night vision gear has worked the same way since World War II. Deepnight built an AI that recovers what's actually there in the dark. Lucas Young, cofounder and CEO, visited High Bit and explained how it works, why generative AI can't do this, and why he's certain this is how soldiers will see in the dark. Recently the US Army and Air Force have been testing it on drones, helmets, and handheld devices. A major technical milestone. Deepnight's goal is to make night vision accessible for every platform in the military. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gy3w6Jks And check out the full episode with Lucas below. ⬇️

Last week we were at the "Engineering the Exit" dinner hosted by the Wells Fargo Banking team - great room of founders, operators, and investors. One thing kept coming up is that in robotics and physical AI, the tech is rarely what makes or breaks you, but the messy work of actually deploying it in the real world is where the moat is built. We continue to be focused on teams with a clear understanding of the execution and commercial pathways for physical AI- excited to announce our latest investment here soon!

Deepnight captured drone footage with an EO camera on a moonless night, in an area with minimal light pollution (Bortle 4). While visible light cameras are photon-starved in this condition, our AI-based image processing restores true scene information. High-cost thermal cameras are commonly used for autonomous visual navigation in complete darkness. By using AI to see in the dark, we achieve higher fidelity scene information, while using lower-cost visible light cameras. View full resolution footage here: https://lnkd.in/ggCdjSW3

  • Last week, we at Sugar Free Capital hosted a dinner for early stage founders building at the intersection of work, care, and the infrastructure of modern life- the kind of stuff that doesn't always make the headlines but shapes how people actually live. It was incredibly energizing to see the optimism and energy in the room around how AI can democratize so many of our structural systems today that can be hard to navigate. Thank you to The Artemis Fund and Ramp for making the evening possible!

Last Friday, we at Sugar Free Capital hosted a Pi Day celebration for MIT founders in NYC. A fitting crowd, since for many of them, Pi Day marks the anniversary of their Massachusetts Institute of Technology acceptance letter. Every March 14th, we celebrate Pi Day, named for the decimal approximation 3.14. Most people also know 22/7, a classic rational approximation. It's about equally accurate, both off by roughly 0.04%. But meet 355/113. It's off by just 0.000008%, over 5,000x more accurate, with a denominator only 16x larger. Discovered by Zu Chongzhi in 5th-century China, it wouldn't be surpassed for a thousand years. The secret? In π's continued fraction, a hidden 292 delivers a massive leap in precision at almost no extra cost. Sometimes a small increase in effort unlocks an outsized result. That's what we look for in founders: not 5,000x more resources, just the instinct to know where the 292 is hiding. Happy Pi Day. 🥧

  • Proud to have Sugar Free Capital represented on the The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth PE/VC Conference stage.

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of keynoting the The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth’s PE/VC Conference, interviewed by one of my mentors, James M. P. Feuille. Jim asked sharp questions about how in just 5 years after graduating from business school one could build a firm from scratch, and what I had done early on in my career to help catalyze Sugar Free Capital. Careers in venture are the result of serendipity, luck, and tenacity. Much of my journey to Sugar Free Capital was driven by creating as many opportunities as possible to be in fortuitous situations. If there is one thing I'd encourage those interested in building careers in undefined pathways: immerse yourself in environments with the smartest people, and work hard. I have yet to meet a successful VC who was unclear about whether they wanted to pursue a career in investing. This is one of those roles where you have to be 120% committed from the start. Although posting this on LinkedIn means it's documented for the record somewhere- Sugar Free Capital is my life's work, and I don't think there is another role in the world that would bring me as much joy. Thank you to The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth for including me in what felt like a full circle moment!

Last week, we hosted 18 pre-seed technical founders building across AI-native infrastructure, frontier tech, and vertical software in NYC. One common theme resonated: founding teams are building at lightning speed and need both camaraderie and shared learnings to support their lean but mighty teams. We love connecting the dots between founders and bringing sharp builders together. Looking forward to the next one! Sheena Jindal Jack Pan

  • Kirin Sinha of Illumix (proudly backed by SFC) was recently featured in Forbes discussing the importance of Physical AI and world models, as AI progresses past LLMs and into the physical space. Illumix has quietly been building the foundations for world models to operate with precision and accuracy in real world environments, just as a human would. See some of Kirin's insights below or read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eiQajrQa
