One of our favorite things at CRIS is seeing our community come together in creative ways to support newcomers here in Central Ohio. In partnership with Smart Columbus, CAS just donated 67 laptops to CRIS! Each laptop was refurbished by Columbus Micro Systems and will go directly to a recently arrived refugee family. This technology is truly life-changing for those we serve, opening up greater opportunities for job searches, learning English, and helping school-aged children with their studies. Thank you to all of those involved in this wonderfully collaborative effort–your support truly makes a difference!

Columbus GreenIT Zone - join us!! - Last year, Smart Columbus & and Rackspace Technology published the first Columbus Green IT Playbook https://lnkd.in/gYt7Uc8x . The Playbook established Columbus as a national leader in "Green IT", and highlighted best practices for technologists to advance environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and technology governance in their organizations. The Green IT Playbook was exceptionally well received on a national stage and was highlighted at the CIO Tomorrow annual conference, the Ohio Energy Conference, and the national SustainableIT.org Impact Awards. Based on this success, we will be publishing the Green IT Playbook 2.0 in 2025 to update local sustainable IT efforts and highlight regional progress. To participate, we are asking IT Leaders to complete a survey by Friday, February 21. It should take no more than 10 minutes. Our goal is to have 50+ Columbus-based employers share their Green IT efforts. The 2025 Green IT Playbook will be published later this spring. Smart Columbus has been on quite the journey since the USDOT Smart Cities Challenge grant wrapped up in 2021, and Storyforge has been there every step of the way! Haley Boehning has been instrumental in helping us clarify our mission, vision and values as we take on new and next community projects. We can't wait for what 2025 will bring, and look forward to sharing more with you along the way!
🚦What do you do when your organization must either reinvent itself or cease to exist? In 2016, Columbus beat out 78 cities to win $50M in grant funding to transform the way people think about transportation in the city. For 5 years, Smart Columbus executed their transportation-focused mandate with success—but, when the grant ended, they found themselves at a crossroads. They had the resources, talent, and ambition to keep driving change… But lacked a clear direction for what came next. The key to transforming Smart Columbus were early insights about what made Smart Columbus different: It wasn’t about exactly WHAT they did, But rather about HOW they did it. The result? The day featured an insightful keynote panel highlighting current challenges and opportunities surrounding care coordination in Franklin County, alongside workshops addressing equity, informed consent, and the development of effective workflows.
