  • Singapore sweeps 78.1% of regional venture deal value in 2025, drawing in $4.2b in equity deal value. This exceeded other markets, where individual country totals remained below $1.5b in value. According to Kickstart Ventures’ full-year report, most of the momentum came from H2, which saw a rebound in late-stage deal activity. By deal count, the top 3 markets were: 1️⃣ Singapore (78.1%) 2️⃣ Indonesia (14.3%) 3️⃣ Malaysia (8.7%) The report underscores how this reinforces Singapore’s position as the region’s choice launchpad for ventures looking to scale. • To many visiting Adrian Fuhrmann's research lab, the sight of flies and larvae is an unpleasant one. To Adrian, it’s gold. Born in Germany, Adrian was always drawn to sustainable agriculture, or research that would benefit the earth. After attaining a degree in agricultural science, he narrowed his focus to insects during his Master’s, intrigued by their role in agricultural production. His next step brought him to Singapore, where he’s pursuing his PhD at the Singapore-ETH Centre. “Singapore is very future-oriented and very open to innovation,” he says. “It has a relatively clear agenda for rethinking food production.” Here, he studies black soldier fly larvae, which thrive in warmer climates like Singapore’s. The larvae present a three-in-one solution, processing large amounts of food waste, making fertiliser, and being harvested as feed for poultry and aquaculture. Ideal climate aside, Singapore’s position as a research hub has presented many opportunities for Adrian. In 2024, he was part of the organising committee for the biannual Insects to Feed the World conference when Singapore played host. He also attended Singapore’s annual Global Young Scientists Summit, getting to present his work and speak to the likes of Nobel laureates and other scientific luminaries. While he hasn’t decided on his next move after completing his PhD, Adrian is open to opportunities in Singapore, having adjusted well to life here. • At 2am, Joanna Sun watched her parents rush next door to calm her great-grandmother. She had dementia. Confused, anxious, and often distressed. That moment stayed with Joanna, and quietly shaped the path she would take. Years later, working in an aged care facility in Tasmania, she encountered a very different reality. Residents living with dementia were still active, engaged, and supported to live meaningful lives. It changed her perspective. Joanna realised that dementia care wasn’t just a clinical challenge—it was shaped by the environments we design, and the way society understands the condition. When she returned to Singapore, she set out to change both. Today, Joanna has played a key role in advancing dementia care locally. As a lecturer, she has helped shape how the next generation understands care. She also developed the Singapore Environmental Assessment Tool (SEAT), a framework used to evaluate how care environments support persons living with dementia, and launched Design and Dementia to translate research into practical tools. “In the last decade, Singapore has progressed leaps and bounds when it comes to dementia care,” she shares. And with greater awareness comes something equally important: a more inclusive society: one that enables people to live with dignity at every stage of life. • At 22, Christopher Y. Chan made an unexpected decision that would set the course for a global career. Today, he counts a Silicon Valley startup, Lazada, and Fortune 200 company JLL Technologies among the organisations he’s helped shape along the way. Christopher kicked off his global career in business and law by moving to India from the United States to help expand a U.S. firm’s first international office. He then returned to the U.S., honing his intellectual property expertise at a U.S. Top 100 law firm and a Silicon Valley startup. He eventually relocated to Singapore, becoming RedMart’s first in-house lawyer. There, he aided in the company’s growth and its eventual acquisition by Lazada. Now, as General Counsel at JLL Technologies, Chris helps shape legal strategy around artificial intelligence and technology, ensuring the company adopts innovative solutions in a responsible manner. Looking to the future, he has an optimistic view of the transformative potential AI and other emerging technologies present. “Whether you’re drafting contracts or code, the real challenge is the same: understanding how people work, and how systems scale,” he reflects. • Growing up in a post-independence Singapore, Tian Chong Ng admired the local brands that made a name for themselves globally, like Singapore Airlines, DBS Bank and Singtel. So when he was courted by Singtel to spearhead its transformation, he left behind his 33-year career at Hewlett Packard Enterprise to fly the Singapore flag high. Tian Chong always wanted to be part of the “Singapore Inc” story. But it would be some time before he got the opportunity. After clinching an International Business degree in California, he took up an internship in HP’s Silicon Valley office rising through the ranks to become general manager at their Jakarta office. His tenured career with HP has seen him through the 1997 Asian financial crisis and the devastating riots that followed in Indonesia, where he helped HP’s local partners mitigate some risk from the collapsed rupiah. The event gave him a deeper appreciation for Singapore’s safety and security, inspiring him to play a role in it himself. After his reservist cycle, he volunteered with the Singapore Armed Forces, taking on roles like battalion commander and retiring as a colonel. When the opportunity came for him to use his professional expertise to help Singapore-based telco Singtel in their next stage of growth, Tian Chong finally left HP.  Now, he works towards driving transformation toward making Singtel an AI-first, digital-first organisation. He’s also focused on shifting company culture to a more open one that fosters innovation, launching internal initiatives such as the “Big Fearless Fund”. “I’ve always had the ambition to apply my experiences at HP in a ‘Singapore Inc’ environment,” says Tian Chong. In an era when firms need strong leadership to navigate AI disruption, his timing couldn’t be better. Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/dMeVXHpM #SingaporeCompanies #Telco #AItransformation

  • When friends Wilson Lee, Kah Lup Lee, and Reine Tan started Clean Kinetics Pte Ltd in 2021, none of them had industry experience. Five years on, the company has seen 41-fold growth, making them Singapore’s Fastest Growing Company. Wilson, Kah Lup, and Reine all hailed from different backgrounds, ranging from engineering to foreign affairs. But they all shared a common goal that drove them - a desire to reduce global carbon emissions. With nothing but passion and ambition, they started Clean Kinetics at a time where multinational corporations dominated the solar energy market. They built everything from scratch. Their growth came from meeting demand wherever it rose, slowly building out their portfolio. A breakthrough came when they expanded into the Middle East. Typically reliant on fossil fuels, the region was shifting towards renewable energy, giving Clean Kinetics opportunities for strategic partnerships. From there, the startup took off, expanding further into Malaysia and Thailand. They’ve since installed over 3.8 million solar panels across six countries and grown their revenue from $365,000 in FY2021 to over $15 million in FY2024. Aside from a mindset of humility, the trio attributes their success to their loyal employees, many of whom have been with them from day one. Looking forward, Clean Kinetics’ founders see the startup as so much more than a business. “We’re not just building solar systems. We’re building a sustainable future,” says Wilson Lee.
