Jerome Peterson keeps his heart in San Francisco. After 15 years of running foster care programs in Alameda County, he’s been making a difference with SilverRide in Concord, cultivating genuine connections with riders. “I have built some very strong relationships with the seniors. We do daily check-ins, tell different stories about our week, and make it more than a ride. It’s like a visit. I take a lot of pride in helping transport riders to the center or to their personal appointments, and they’ve also given me a lot of elderly advice on life.” His passion for the community extends even further. He spends his free time in the East Bay working with young kids ages 5 to 14 through his Bay Area Lions program. “That’s always been my passion. I played college sports, so I’m able to share a lot of my personal experiences through my athletic career and be a huge support system once they go to high school.” Thank you, Jerome, for all you do! We’re proud to partner with compassionate individuals like you. #TherewithCare #transit #paratransit #publictransit #aginginplace #driverspotlight #assistedtransportation

Last week at the American Public Transportation Association’s Mobility Conference, SilverRide CEO Jeff Maltz joined transit leaders Karen Philbrick, Eileen Collins Turvey, MPA, and Jon Larsen on the “Demography is Destiny” general session panel to discuss what an aging population means for public transportation. The numbers are clear: by 2030, 71 million Americans will be over 65. One in five will no longer drive. For transit agencies, this is not a future challenge. It is happening now. Jeff shared SilverRide’s perspective on how paratransit, healthcare, and aging in place are converging on the same rider, and why assisted transportation must be part of the solution. At this year's American Public Transportation Association Mobility Conference there were few key themes that emerged and SilverRide was delighted to be a part of the main stage conversation. 1. Autonomous vehicles are no longer a distant transportation concept; they're an active component in more than 20 cities and an integral part of the transportation ecosystem 2. Transit is not just a nice-to-have for large events. It is a must, and will be instrumental in serving FIFA fans at this year's World Cup. 3. Private companies are vital partners in delivering safe and reliable transit, and the misconception that transit is a drain rather than a flow into the American economy is outdated. 77% of Federal transit funding flows to American companies and private-sector workers, supporting 3,000 industry suppliers and millions of jobs across 50 states. This doesn't even account for the number of people who use transit to get to and from their jobs. 4. Transit is experiencing a "Silver Wave" as Americans age and enter their driving retirement. At the same time, folks are living longer and healthier lives. Losing the ability to drive shouldn't mean the end of independent living; it should be the switch to a new mode of transport to complement that life. SilverRide's Jeff Maltz spoke on this trend at the session "What Current Demographic Trends Tell Us." The discussion featured Karen Philbrick, Mineta Transportation Institute Executive Director; Eileen Collins Turvey, MPA, TriMet Director of Accessible Transportation Programs; Jeff Maltz, SilverRide CEO; and Jon Larsen, Utah Transit Authority Chief Capital Services Officer. The #APTAmobility26 panel addressed how the aging population, shifting immigration policies, and evolving lifestyle and housing patterns are among trends that will influence transportation and community needs in the coming years. You can learn more about the demographic trends in the #TCRP Report 201: Understanding Changes in Demographics, Preferences, and Markets for Public Transportation, which you can find here > https://lnkd.in/eV8N-7Vy #TherewithCare #transit #paratransit #publictransit #aginginplace #safety #tncs #APTAMobility2026 #assistedtransportation

“Your rider is bleeding in the backseat. Do you know what to do?” This week, the SilverRide team had the privilege of joining APTA’s 2026 Bus Roadeo to deliver a workshop on how to manage in-vehicle emergent situations during paratransit service. SilverRide COO Aaron K. McPherson, Chief of Staff Laura Friedman Williams, and Director of West Coast Operations Leah Calixto walked participants through interactive scenarios and real-world solutions, all focused on improving the rider experience for older adults, and people with disabilities who often face unique and situational challenges that require highly skilled credentialled drivers who know what to do. Thank you after for having us participate in this year’s Roadeo, and for allowing us to share firsthand insights on supporting paratransit riders in their journey. #publictransit #safety #apta #paratransit

SilverRide is onsite at #APTAMobility26 and our own Jeff Maltz participated in two critical industry panel discussions. The first – moderated by Charlie Gamble with fellow panelists Joe DeLorenzo and Jeff Sease, discussed fatigue management and new approaches to maintaining operator and rider safety. The second – moderated by Dr. Karen Philbrick with fellow panelists Eileen Collins Turvey, MPA and Jon Larsen, focused on the impact shifting demographics are having on transit. The common theme is that as our world (and population) continue to evolve, transit also must evolve to meet people where they are. “Paratransit connects people to life” was a powerful quote shared this morning by Eileen Collins Turvey, MPA, and it couldn’t be more true. SilverRide is proud to be part of the solution, helping older adults and people with disabilities connect with a life that provides greater joy, fulfillment, and independence. Thank you American Public Transportation Association for welcoming us to contribute to this important dialogue, and to Utah Transit Authority for hosting us in beautiful Salt Lake City. #paratransit #accessibility #transitinnovation #publictransportation #disabilityinclusion cc Joel Young Paul Skoutelas
