A non-profit paving the way for more women to lead at every level of marketing, media and tech.
About us
We have been invested in women’s leadership since we were first organized more than 100 years ago and ultimately became Advertising Women of New York (AWNY). We changed our name to She Runs It in 2016 because as the industry evolved, it became evident that our community encompassed far more than just advertising, and was far broader than just New York. Today we are a global organization with members in 42 states and 8 countries. When we started, we wanted to give more women a seat at the table. Now, we want to see more women at the head of the table. The reason is simple. Women are proven leaders. Women motivate. Innovate. Today, women run companies. Communities. Countries. They are growth-oriented leaders, and focus on steady, sustainable growth. Women are good for business. Companies with more women as leaders are also more financially successful. More socially responsible. And that’s good for everyone. Which is why we bring together both women and men who want to build the world we want to live in. A world where women lead at every level. · Where she runs businesses. · She runs departments. · She runs accounts. · She runs projects. · She runs her career. · She runs her life. · She runs it.

Walking the Talk in LA. On May 12, more than 30 women gathered in Los Angeles for an evening of intimate table discussions designed to spark candid conversation and meaningful new connections. Throughout the night, attendees shared experiences, exchanged ideas, and built relationships that extended far beyond the room. “I really enjoyed the conversations and topics everyone felt safe discussing, finding our common bonds that bring us even closer together, and networking to meet new faces and reconnect with friends,” shared one attendee. One of the best parts of the evening was watching so many women exchange contact information and commit to staying connected long after the conversations ended. Our LA community continues to grow richer, closer, and more connected with every conversation.

Proud to reshare this reminder of the power of mentorship. Our mentorship program continues to grow because of the incredible mentors and mentees who show up year after year with openness, curiosity, and a commitment to lifting others as they climb. We’re grateful for this community and excited for everything this year’s program will bring. Here’s to the connections, conversations, and career-changing moments ahead.
💖🙏🏼💃🏻 One of my FAVORITE parts of being a She Runs It member? The 6-Month #Mentorship Program! Today was my first kickoff call with two of the best and brightest women in media & marketing: Julia Li (dentsu) & Aishwarya Ramaswamy (NBCUniversal) 👉🏼 LinkedIn friends, please do your thing in giving these two early-career superstars a warm welcome! 👏👏👏 Because on day 1 of this mentorship program, I've already challenged them both to start posting more on LinkedIn (which is no easy feat!) Over the next 6 months, we'll be focused on: ✅ Strengthening our personal brands (aka posting on LinkedIn;) ✅ Scheduling informational interviews to soak up wisdom from successful folks in the marketing & media world; ✅ Attending more industry events to grow our networks; & ✅ Building accountability systems to ensure we are proactively building skills and taking advantage of all the great educational resources at our fingertips! Many of you know i'm a HUGE advocate for informational interviews 💖 as a way of receiving peer mentorship, hands-on support for day-to-day woes, getting creative ideas for new projects, or troubleshooting common growing pains in our careers. This #SheRunsIt mentorship program takes those informational interviews to the next level. It's all about leveraging the wisdom of the room (or in our case, a network of 4,000 young executives & c-suite women) and building a more hands-on support structure. Shoutout to my mentorship group from last year: Nissa Poetranto, Aleisha Thakurdas & Stacie Premdas 💖💖💖 P.S. If you're a female executive in marketing, media and tech - please DM me! Would love to extend an invite to join She Runs It, one of the nation's oldest and largest women's professional organizations with chapters all across the US.

Congratulations to our May Member of the Month, Caroline S. Based in New York and working in Media Ad Sales, Caroline has been an active She Runs It member for the past two years, making an impact through the Northeast Committee, New Member Meetings, She Runs It/He Gets It, and She Runs It initiatives at NBCUniversal. What stands out most is Caroline’s commitment to showing up, building meaningful relationships, and continuing to grow both personally and professionally. From expanding internal connections through advocacy to completing the final semester of her Master’s program, she embodies the power of saying yes to new opportunities. Her advice to fellow members: “Make the most of your membership by saying yes, showing up, and being open to trying new things.” Click the link to learn more about Caroline and the incredible impact she’s making within our community: https://lnkd.in/eSC65z8m

There’s a reason people say, “If you want something done well, give it to a busy woman.” Working mothers have mastered the art of navigating complexity with resilience, perspective, and purpose. They lead teams, support families, solve problems, and somehow continue showing up for others every single day. That’s why we’re excited for our today's Executive Class Connects featuring our 2026 Working Mothers of the Year honorees, Laura Thornton and Sandy Impson, in conversation with fellow Executive Class Member and 2025 Working Mother of the Year, Linda Villani. Together, they’ll share honest insights on balancing demanding careers and equally demanding lives, embracing progress over perfection, and leading with intention both at work and at home. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, mentor, or simply navigating the many demands of leadership, this conversation promises practical wisdom, relatable stories, and meaningful inspiration. Speakers: • Laura Thornton, Executive Director, Customer Engagement Marketing, General Motors • Sandy Impson, Senior Agency Lead, Google • Linda Villani, CRO Consulting/ARC Collective, Board Member This conversation is open to all Executive Class members. Last Thursday evening in New York City, we gathered to celebrate three extraordinary leaders whose impact extends far beyond business results. At the 2026 Women of the Year celebration, Nicola Mendelsohn CBE, Ekta Chopra, and Sarah Kramer reminded us what meaningful leadership truly looks like: ambitious yet grounded, visionary yet deeply human. Throughout the evening, we heard powerful reflections on leadership and legacy: • Put the ladder down so others can climb up. • Invest in the people closest to you. • Get ahead of the challenges, absorb the pressure, and give the credit to your team. • Be a mentor. Be a sponsor. • Show up for the people who matter most. One message resonated again and again: empathy is not a soft skill. It is a leadership skill. Ambition and kindness are not mutually exclusive. The strongest leaders embody both. There were also moments we’ll carry with us long after the night ended: “You can’t whistle and cry at the same time.” “Write down your vision for your life.” Honored to celebrate women who are building the kind of industry people want to be part of, one rooted in excellence, humanity, generosity, and heart.
