  • Self-care is not a luxury. It is not self-indulgence. It is of the utmost importance – now more than ever. You need to care for yourself in order to care for someone else. As Mental Health Month comes to a close, let’s talk about how we can take better care of ourselves. What advice do you have? Share your experience with us.

  • We wish you all a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! We honor all veterans of the past and the present. We salute the caregivers who care for veterans. We know there are many of you in our community caring for vets. Tell us their story. Thank you for your service.

  • Has anyone here relied on respite care for you and your loved one? What was your experience like? Respite care is a short-term approach to managing a change in the caregiving routine and is a sensible, often underutilized method of providing rest for family caregivers. Caregivers are sometimes reluctant to receive assistance or support in their caregiving duties because they feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility for their care recipients. Respite care can be delivered in a home environment (by engaging in-home services) or in a more structured senior living environment such as an assisted living community or skilled nursing facility. Medical respite can also be provided for tasks that the caregiver might not be physically able to perform such as assisting with bathing or physical therapy. • As National Mental Health Month continues, let's consider another way caring for our loved ones can impact our own mental health. Isolation and loneliness are all too common for caregivers. It can be difficult to talk about our experience but talking about what we’re going through is a key part of the self-care necessary to stay mentally healthy and emotionally balanced. How are you feeling today? What challenges are you facing right now? Share your thoughts - other caregivers who truly understand are here for you! #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness

  • It is sadly not uncommon for older adults to struggle with a mental illness, such as depression. Depression is tough at any age, but it can be particularly challenging to manage for older adults and their families. Understanding older adults with depression, what they're going through, and the appropriate treatment requires a step-by-step breakdown. As #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth continues, Seniorly is here to support you with a primer on depression in older adults: https://lnkd.in/gex3BmVK

  • We wish everyone here a very happy Mother’s Day weekend! To all of you who are now caring for your mother, we salute you. Share a story about your mother with us. What has it been like caring for her now that your roles have reversed? Or share a favorite memory of the past. Thank you for all you bring to our community. Have a lovely day.

  • May is National Mental Health Month. It is important to talk openly about mental health, so let’s talk about how it affects us as caregivers. Can you relate to this deeply personal story we heard from our community? “I am the caregiver for my elderly mother. I also suffer from Bi-Polar disorder, and this is the worst it’s been for me. I’ve been having an episode that’s lasted 3 solid weeks. I didn’t bathe, I didn’t clean. It was all I could do to just take care of my mother. The depression during an episode is overwhelming and the guilt is all consuming. I have missed so many family functions that people are surprised to see me when I make it.” #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealth

  • Are you concerned about whether your retirement plan will go far enough? Share your thoughts with us! Older Americans in nearly every state are on track to outlive their retirement income and savings. That’s the alarming takeaway from our new report. Across the U.S., older adults face an average gap of about $115,000 between what they’re projected to spend during retirement and what they’re likely to bring in from Social Security, savings, and investments. The findings come as the surging cost of living puts even more pressure on older adults living on fixed incomes and retirement plans. Read our report on where seniors are most and least likely to outlive their savings: https://lnkd.in/gKG2c72u
