Our local parks do so much more than host weekend games of catch — they are also the literal "lungs" of our cities. 🏙️🌱 We collaborated with Project EverGreen and the City of Phoenix to revitalize Barrios Unidos Park in Phoenix, Arizona. By replenishing nutrients in the soil, planting native trees and maintaining the grass, together we reactivated the natural power of this green space: 🌬️ Cleaner air: Healthy lawns, trees, and shrubs act as natural filters by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing fresh oxygen. 🌡️ Cooler streets: Real grass and shade trees act as natural air conditioners, combatting the urban “heat island” effect. 💧 Water management: Healthy turf acts like a giant sponge, capturing rainfall, filtering out pollutants, and protecting our local waterways from runoff. When we invest in our local parks, we are building a cooler, cleaner and more vibrant world for everyone. 🌎✨ 👉 Read more about the power in our urban green spaces: https://bit.ly/3RQJhCN

As traveling season officially opens, airport anxiety is real. But what if a walk through the terminal could lower your stress as much as a walk in the park? 🌿 Architects and artists are taking note, bringing calming, outdoor vibes to high-pressure environments: airports, courthouses and even correctional facilities. Through "biophilic design," designers incorporate living trees, natural light and green walls to lower heart rates, de-escalate tension and promote mental wellness. We all want our yards to be a safe, worry-free zone for our kids and pets. But with The New York Times recently reporting that ticks are expanding into new areas and carrying multiple diseases, keeping those uninvited guests out is definitely top of mind. While it's true that ticks are responsible for 75% of vector-borne diseases in the U.S., protecting your outdoor space doesn't have to be a stressful chore. Here are three simple steps you can take to control ticks so you can get back to enjoying your backyard: 1️⃣ Remove their habitat: Ticks thrive in tall grass, overgrown brush and damp leaf litter. Keep your lawn consistently mowed, clear out weeds and move any woodpiles off the ground and away from your home. 2️⃣ Create a physical barrier: Ticks avoid crossing dry, loose materials. Try laying a 3-foot-wide border of gravel or wood chips between your pristine lawn and any bordering wooded areas. 3️⃣ Apply targeted treatments: Applying a targeted tick spray to lawn edges, shaded spots and garden borders in early spring provides a crucial line of defense. Remember, ticks don’t jump or fly. They wait on low vegetation to latch onto passing hosts. As we gear up for warmer weather, don’t let ticks ruin your backyard barbecues or family time. On World Bee Day, we’re celebrating these critical pollinators by inspiring the next generation to protect them. 🐝 At our apiary in Marysville, Ohio, the Central Ohio Beekeepers Association (COBA), hosted a hands-on, educational event for the Girl Scouts of Ohio's Heartland. In partnership with The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation, they taught the scouts all about the care and keeping of bees. The Girl Scouts suited up in beekeeping gear to earn their next badge by learning about: 🧬 The life cycles of bees: Discovering how these fascinating creatures operate and support our ecosystems. 🐝 Bee anatomy: Uncovering the fascinating face that bees have two compound eyes and three eyes that let them see in the dark inside the hive. 👑 Hive management: Requeening a hive to support the colony's health and future growth. 🕯️ The uses of beeswax: Getting hands-on by rolling and creating their own beeswax candles. Protecting our pollinators is crucial for a healthy planet, and that’s why we’re committed to supporting them – now and into the future. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event un-bee-lievable! 🌼 #WorldBeeDay #PollinatorProtection #Sustainability

We were proud to recently host the Center for Operational Excellence at The Ohio State University (COE) at our Marysville manufacturing and logistics facilities. COE is a business consortium founded 30 years ago to connect organizations of all industries to build and sustain a culture of problem solving and continuous improvement. Attendees from manufacturing, materials and insurance industries visited three of our Marysville, Ohio facilities. The tours of our fertilizer manufacturing plant, the EZ Seed production plant, and our 1.3 million square-foot distribution center provided an opportunity to showcase not just our processes but also the dedication of our incredible associates. We look forward to connecting with like-minded organizations dedicated to operational excellence. #SupplyChain #Manufacturing #ContinuousImprovement

In a digital world, the most impactful work still happens face-to-face. 🤝 Kate Fritz, CEO of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, talks about why personal connections are so important for environmental progress. A reliable community provides the support needed to work through challenges and build success. The Alliance was one of 12 environmental partners who joined The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation's National Partner Network Conference in Tampa Bay. It gave us the chance to step away from our daily work and create stronger relationships in person. By combining resources and expertise, we can achieve much more for the environment when we work together. 🌎

Plants make a great fundraiser, especially when it comes to raising funds for pups! 🐶 🪴 Our Scotts Associates for a Greener Earth (SAGE) group worked the Live Goods team to help out our friends at RESCUEDohio. If you haven't heard of RESCUEDOhio, they're a 100% volunteer-run, foster-based dog rescue in central Ohio. We sent over a batch of home-grown starters — from fresh herbs to flowers — for their sixth annual Plants for Pups fundraiser. It was a great day for neighbors to grab a new plant for the garden, pick up a cute dog bandana or even meet a new four-legged family member. This year's event was a huge success with all proceeds going straight to medical care for the pups.
