  • 🛰️ More satellites. More signals. A more complex RF environment. As LEO constellations continue to expand, the way we think about radio-frequency interference is evolving too. This interesting article from the International Telecommunication Union looks ahead to WRC-27 and highlights a growing challenge: moving beyond interference from individual satellite systems to consider the aggregate impact of multiple non-GSO constellations. While the article focuses on radio astronomy, the broader topic resonates strongly with the PNT community. As satellite-based services multiply, understanding increasingly complex RF environments - and ensuring that systems can operate reliably within them - is becoming ever more important. For PNT, this reinforces the importance of realistic simulation, testing and resilient navigation technologies, particularly as LEO becomes an increasingly important part of the navigation landscape. An interesting read on how our shared spectrum environment is evolving. 👇 https://hubs.li/Q04y6k1J0 #PNT #LEO #GNSS #ResilientPNT #SatelliteNavigation #Spectrum #WRC27 #Safran-Space

  • What does resilient PNT really mean for autonomous platforms? As GNSS jamming, spoofing and signal denial become part of the operational environment, navigation can no longer rely on GNSS alone. In this new Q&A, Jean-François Jourdas, VP Programs – GNSS, Simulation & Navwar, explores how tightly coupled GNSS, inertial navigation and advanced sensor fusion can help deliver trusted PNT - and how collaborative PNT, LEO-PNT, alternative navigation sources and AI could shape the next generation of resilient navigation. 👉 Read the full Q&A : https://hubs.li/Q04yxxxW0 #ResilientPNT #Navigation #AutonomousSystems #GNSS #NavWar

  • ✈️ On This Day in Navigation History | September 24, 1929 What if a pilot could fly without seeing outside the cockpit? On September 24, 1929, aviation pioneer Jimmy Doolittle demonstrated that it was possible. Flying with his cockpit view obscured, Doolittle took off, flew a set course and landed relying on instruments and radio navigation rather than external visual references. His historic “blind flight” helped demonstrate the potential of instrument flying - a major step toward safer, more reliable all-weather aviation. Nearly a century later, the technologies have transformed: from early gyroscopic instruments and radio aids to GNSS, inertial navigation and resilient PNT. But the objective remains remarkably similar: knowing precisely where you are, where you're going and how to get there - whatever the conditions. • 🌊 How can we accurately observe what is happening up to 1,500 meters beneath the Arctic ice? Tara Polar Station has begun its overwintering period in the heart of the Arctic Ocean. For nine months, scientists will explore, document and deepen our understanding of this rapidly changing polar ocean. Among the instruments on board, acoustic sounders will be used to assess the biomass present in the water column beneath the ice, as well as to measure the speed and direction of ocean currents down to depths of 1,500 meters. But this raises a major challenge: how can the reliability of these measurements be ensured when the station is constantly moving? Roll, pitch and changes in heading can affect the accuracy of observations, particularly at greater depths. To correctly interpret the data collected, it is therefore essential to know the station’s precise orientation at the exact moment each measurement is taken. This is where the inertial navigation system comes into play. 🎥 Thomas Linkowski, Oceanographic Engineer at Fondation Tara Océan, explains what the sounders can reveal beneath the Arctic ice and the challenges involved in obtaining reliable scientific data. https://hubs.li/Q04xHldM0 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🌊 Comment observer avec précision ce qui se passe jusqu’à 1 500 mètres sous la banquise ?

Tara Polaris I: The Drift Has Begun! On September 8th, as part of a France-China collaboration, the Xue Long 2, an oceanographic icebreaker belonging to the Polar Research Institute of China surveying the area, joined Tara Polar Station at a planned meeting point. The Xue Long 2 thus cleared the way for the station, enabling it to reach its targeted ice floe  at 82°24’N 155°03’E yesterday and becoming trapped in the ice, almost two months after leaving its home port in Lorient Agglomération, France. Now, this amazing expedition to the Central Arctic Ocean truly starts with twelve winterers. At the heart of this crucial step of the expedition and the overall Tara Polaris programme (2026–2046) lies cooperation. Launched on France’s initiative as part of its polar strategy and with the support of the European Union, the Tara Polaris programme will bear witness to the alarming changes taking place in the Arctic Ocean. The first expedition, Tara Polaris I (2026–2027), now brings together more than thirty scientific partners from 12 countries, collaborating within a unique consortium. The crew onboard will be able to begin its research and 220 scientific protocols around the station as the winter settles. Thank you to all our partners, donors, patrons and followers for their support through this journey! Follow us on social platforms.
