  • Roof Above is honored to serve as the operating partner for Easter's Home: the vision of Caldwell Presbyterian Church and the execution of DreamKey Partners. They have transformed a church education building into 21 unique apartments for 21 unique individuals that have experienced chronic homelessness, creating spaces for hope, possibility, community, and home. We appreciate all the partners that made this groundbreaking collaboration possible: the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the NCHFA, Rehab Builders, Inc., and DreamKey Partners.

Housing is more than just a physical space; it serves as a foundation for stability, health, and hope. We understand that homelessness is a complex issue that requires a long-term commitment, collaboration, and compassion. Easter’s Home represents one step toward addressing this challenge by providing housing for 21 individuals and the support they need to move forward in their lives. “This has been a journey for our congregation. listening, learning, and growing in our understanding of our neighbors’ experiences. Through conversations, education, and partnership, we’ve been called to act. Easter’s Home is a reflection of that commitment to show up, to serve, and to be a good neighbor.” — Rev. John Cleghorn Progress does not happen all at once; every step forward is significant. #DreamKeyPartners #EastersHome #HousingForAll #CharlotteHousing #FaithBasedHousing

  • We are so grateful for the innovation and collaboration that exists within our community! The Housing Impact Fund has raised another $102 million to preserve an estimated 1,500 units of Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing (NOAH) in our community by 2028. We believe this is one of the most impactful interventions happening in the affordable housing space. Congratulations our partners at Housing Impact Fund and Ascent Housing, and thank you to their investors! We look forward to helping end homelessness for people by connecting them to your properties! So, what exactly does Roof Above do? Is Roof Above a soup kitchen? Or a shelter? We hear those questions a lot. Here’s the answer: Roof Above offers all of that and more, as we seek to unite the community to end homelessness in Charlotte, one life at a time. HOUSING o   6  housing locations that offer a range of paths out of homelessness, including affordable, transitional, and supportive housing o   Affordable housing partnerships with landlords across the city to help create and maintain housing options for people coming out of homelessness SHELTER o   3 men’s shelters offering 558 total beds o   The Room in the Inn emergency winter shelter program, serving families, women, and men A DAY SERVICES CENTER that offers o   Lunch and basic services such as showers, mail, and laundry 365 days a year  o   A point of entry for connecting to other resources, including healthcare, ID clinics, shelter, and housing We do all of this in partnership with thousands of volunteers, donors, and community partners. We are so grateful to the many individuals, corporations, and non-profit organizations that are already involved in uniting the Charlotte community to end homelessness.  We know that our goal of ending homelessness in Charlotte is bold and will require the entire community. If we don’t know you yet, we welcome you to join us!  Check out the video to hear about our work directly from our team and Roof Above Board chair Rosie Krneta. Video credit: Silent Images

  • With 11 nights of ice, snow, and dangerous cold, Roof Above needed your help, and our Charlotte community rose to meet the challenge!   The generosity of our community helped provide safe, warm shelter for almost 1,000 neighbors experiencing homelessness through our three shelters and our Room In The Inn program.   When temperatures drop below freezing, our shelters operate with a no-turnaway policy, opening beyond capacity to ensure no one is left outside. This winter, those doors have remained open in overflow for 23 consecutive days.   We are deeply grateful to Honeywell and the many community organizations, congregations, donors, and volunteers who stepped forward with urgency and compassion.   Thank you for standing with Roof Above and our neighbors in need!

  • From street outreach to meals, from shelter to housing, all of our teams were engaged in the response to the winter storm this weekend . . . and our community had our backs! Roof Above CEO Liz Clasen-Kelly and all of us here at Roof Above want to thank those who supported us this weekend - from gathering blankets, to donating funds, to helping provide food and shelter, so many in the community really showed up and helped us to show up for the people we serve. If you’d like a more in-depth look at our work, sign up for our monthly e-newsletter, Heartbeats & Highlights, coming out this Thursday: https://lnkd.in/e6bt7hX6. Overnight low temps remain well below freezing for the foreseeable future, so our shelters remain on overflow. We are grateful to have a community like this to call on!

  • Roof Above reposted this

Lowe's Companies, Inc. Heroes season is in full swing from Sept-Nov., where associates have the opportunity to get out into the community and volunteer. Leading this project from a Charlotte Hometown perspective has been an amazing opportunity and I was excited to kick off the season with one of the first projects at Roof Above installing wardrobes donated by Lowe’s at their new Kings on Lamar dorms. Thank you to Liz Clasen-Kelly, Danielle Thibodeau, Nicole C. Ayers, and Stephen Vinski at Roof Above for all the work you’ve done to make these dorms a reality! And of course a thank you to Rachel Stamey, Andy Benesh, Audra Atkinson, Lacey Canter, PMP, Cody S., Katie Tak, Shawn Inman, Eric J. J., and Katie Sneathen for coming out to volunteer! #HowLowesHelps
