sharing Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA)'s progress developing the Tirana Pyramid Experience in Albania this week. Together with RAA's Lead Designer Denada Dahriu took the stage and shared our lastest concepts with Prime Minister Edi Rama, Culture Minister Blendi Gonxhja, Mayor of Tirana AADF Board Chair Michael Granoff and AADFs Co-CEOs. The Pyramid of Tirana is a monument created by the communist dictator Enver Hoxha but since the regime's dramatic collapse in 1991 it was reprogrammed with new life, at first by the local Tirana community and an most recently renovated b MVRDV architects under stewardship of the Albanian - American Development Foundation (AADF) . Certainly an icon of Albanian history and now its post Communist Era rebirth at the heart of the capital, the adaptation of this remarkable building and its programs is also a fascinating case study in how to preserve and reuse historic structures - even those with negative associations of an oppressive dictatorship - for something democratic, positive and future oriented. Albania leads the way! Scroll down for English and photos of the event. -- This project inspires me to pose a hypothetical retroactive scenario for Berlin: What if instead of tearing down the iconic Palast der Republic, ts structure were preserved and something innovative and new was made out of it? In other words instead of looking backward to recover the spirit of 18th and 19th Century Enlightenment, thus erasing the 20th Century, create a statement of Germany's vision for the 21st Century. Yesterday, Bruno Goppion joined Tim Ventimiglia of Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA) and Göran Joryd, Project Manager for the Vikingtidsmuseet, for the talk "Making the Museum of the Viking Age" at the Museums + Heritage Show in London, along with Sara Bernasconi. The panel discussed conservation strategy, exhibition design, fit-out, and the integration of large-scale and highly sensitive artifacts in the development of the forthcoming museum in Oslo. In the archipelagos of Arctic Norway, The Whale is taking shape. Its foundations, columns and beams are now in place, clearly revealing the building’s geometry on the waterfront of Andøya. With construction rapidly progressing, The Whale is scheduled to open in the summer of 2027 in Andenes, a town in Northern Norway surrounded by vast mountain and ocean landscapes. Set at the water’s edge, the landscape has profoundly influenced the architecture. The building rises like a gentle hill from the rocky shoreline, forming a public space and vantage point to enjoy the dramatic scenery and perhaps see one of the fabled mammals emerge from the depths. Combining art, science and architecture, the project seeks to raise awareness and deepen understanding of whales and the conservation of the fragile ecosystems they inhabit. excited to reshare this post by our client Magnicity / Berliner Fernsehturm to announce that Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA) Berlin studio and reciproque of Paris have been engaged to renew exhibitions at the Berlin TV Tower / Berlin Fernsehturm, from bottom to the top. Designed by architect Hermann Henselmann and built in 1969 this is certainly Berlin’s most visible architectural monument and at 368,3 meters also Germany's highest landmarked structure, a remarkable feat of engineering and powerful space race demonstration of technological prowess expressed by the former GDR and visible to all in the West to admire the Tower is also, aside from the Berlin Wall in its totality, perhaps the largest artifact of the Cold War. Thanks to the trust our client has placed in our team and the work to come. We are honored and inspired.
