Project Spotlight | White Horse Village Porte Cochere Mass timber structures often succeed because of what happens behind the scenes—coordination, sequencing, fabrication planning, and field execution all working together. QB was proud to provide the supply and installation of the custom glulam timber truss system for the White Horse Village porte cochere, helping bring this architecturally exposed entry feature to life. One unique aspect of the project was the accelerated timeline, which required QB to assemble the individual timber truss components onsite prior to installation to help keep the project moving efficiently. A great example of how thoughtful planning and coordinated execution can support both design intent and constructability in mass timber projects. The construction industry has always faced pressure from multiple directions at once: labor shortages, schedule compression, rising operational costs, material volatility, and increasingly complex project coordination. But in 2026, another reality is becoming impossible to separate from those conversations: Sustainability is no longer operating independently from project execution. Many teams still assume mass timber is “too expensive.” Usually, that’s because they’re evaluating the structure too narrowly. One of the more interesting discussions at IMTC International Mass Timber Conference this year focused on what actually happens when teams price the entire project instead of just comparing frame-to-frame material costs. For some projects, the premium over steel on the structural package itself was surprisingly small. But the bigger story was everything that disappeared because timber was used: •lighter foundations •fewer ceiling systems •faster erection cycles •reduced labor exposure Even seemingly small field decisions matter...a lot. Take drilling operations, for example. Each hole drilled in the field represents a coordination decision made upstream. Every additional field modification, custom penetration, or late-stage coordination issue creates labor drag onsite. The more teams can coordinate penetrations, connection layouts, and sequencing digitally before fabrication, the more efficient installation becomes in the field. That’s where constructability and digital coordination start becoming financial strategies—not just technical exercises. Mass timber is rarely just a material decision. It’s a systems decision.
