"If we don't, someone else will." ... With that decisive vision, Neil McElroy championed the launch of Tide in the 1940s, despite major hurdles. The challenge was immense – existing equipment was insufficient, material scarcity was rampant, and the production line machinery wasn't performing as intended. But a dead end is just an invitation to innovate. P&G's team didn't just fix the problem – they rethought the entire approach by: ✅ Reformulating detergent for superior performance and better flow. ✅ Refining the process using time-motion studies. ✅ Building new machinery from scratch. The result? Production skyrocketed from 275 million pounds in 1946 to over 1 billion by 1950, setting a new standard for the entire industry. This is our heritage that is still ingrained today – using data, teamwork and tenacity to turn manufacturing challenges into a competitive advantage.
