We’ve been talking a lot about “Planetary Intelligence”: a vision that involves turning data into actionable, timely insights. 💬 A significant leap towards realizing this vision is agentic geospatial AI. By pairing Planet data with agentic AI, discovering insights about the planet is as easy as asking a question in a simple, map-based chat interface. 📹 Watch the webinar about our new tool that’s available soon: on-demand now. https://lnkd.in/gXaqBPtt

I’m introducing a new type of machine intelligence that understands our physical world in real-time… a powerful expansion of AI’s capabilities. The AI models today that have captivated the world are very powerful – wrapping most of human knowledge as committed to the internet – yet they are at their core, blind. Ask an LLM what is happening in a farmer's field in Kansas today, and it will offer everything it has absorbed about agronomy and soil science, historic weather patterns and the history of farming in the Midwest. But it cannot tell you what is actually happening today and now. This is about to change. Earth imagery gives the LLMs sensors. I call it “Planetary Intelligence.” In this essay, I talk about implications for people across economic, security, and sustainability domains. If we use it wisely, building Planetary Intelligence can help us steward the Earth and build an AI aligned with life in a reciprocal relationship between all living things. And, I speculate about humanity's place in the cosmos, and how giving AI sensors may help humans and machines coexist safely and survive the Great Filter. Given how rare life is in the cosmos, getting this right may have stakes that extend well beyond any company, country, or century: it might be the most important thing we ever do. https://lnkd.in/gTeh5pbs
