The final buzzer has sounded on another successful season of Reading Champions. More than 1,000 third graders across Western Pennsylvania logged more than one million minutes of reading this year through Reading Champions, our collaboration with the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation. We teamed up with EQT Corporation, our Official Net-Zero partner, to offset our team’s carbon footprint. After two years of measurement, we achieved carbon neutrality by retiring 272 acres of Allegheny Land Trust conversation areas. That's enough land to fit nearly 200 hockey rinks! These lands capture carbon, absorb stormwater, improve our region’s air and water quality, and create places for our local communities to enjoy. The retired lands include: • Buena Vista Heights Conservation Area (155 acres - Elizabeth Township) • Buerkle Woodlands Conservation Area (64 acres - Sewickley Hills Borough) • Glade Run Lake Conservation Project (53 acres - Middlesex Township) The Penguins Pledge is our commitment to improve all efforts of social, economic and environmental sustainability in collaboration with our Pledge partners. This work with EQT and the Allegheny Land Trust is the power of the Penguins Pledge. Here’s to work that strengthens our climate, our communities, and our shared future. Happy Earth Day!

Today we celebrate Global Recycling Day! ♻️ Alongside PPG, the Penguins have been actively involved in the #MillionCans Recycling Contest, supporting local 2nd graders at Environmental Charter School! To date, they’ve collected over 30,000 cans! Earlier this month, we participated in a spirited pep rally with the goal to educate 2nd graders on the power of recycling and take the pledge to never throw a can in the trash. Additionally, all students were invited to our third annual Penguins Pledge game to celebrate their great recycling accomplishments. Students kicked off the game with our Hockey Night in Pittsburgh moment, rode the Fanboni, and cheered loud and proud for the Penguins at PPG Paints Arena! Thank you to PPG's Packaging Coatings Business, Can Manufacturers Institute, Michael Brothers Companies, Recycling is like Magic!, and Recycling Society for this special cross-industry collaboration!
