Community solar is entering a different phase of its growth. The market is no longer simply about proving that community solar can work. The focus is now on where it works, how it works and whether the model can scale sustainably. Recent investment in Illinois and New York, continued growth in several state markets, and the evolution of industry advocacy all point to a market that is becoming more mature and more integrated into the broader energy landscape. For Perch, that makes the next phase an opportunity to build on markets that work well for the entire ecosystem-projects, investors, customers, utilities and communities. https://lnkd.in/e-p4hMFN

Last week, Generate Capital announced a $117 million financing facility with MUFG supporting 18 community solar projects totaling 114 MWdc across Illinois and New York. The announcement follows a $260 million financing for approximately 85 MW of community solar projects from 38 Degrees North. Those transactions represent nearly $380 million of financing across community solar portfolios and tell us that institutional capital is still moving into community solar. For us and the rest of the industry, that's an encouraging signal: investors continue to see community solar as infrastructure with long-term value. https://lnkd.in/eEtxTHTd

The latest community solar data tells a more nuanced story than the national numbers alone suggest... While overall U.S. community solar installations declined in Q2, several state markets continued to grow. New Jersey, New York and Oregon were the only states to see more than 1% quarter-over-quarter capacity growth, while Illinois, Virginia and Delaware are also expected to see capacity growth this year. We're watching (and influencing) how different states are designing their markets and what those choices mean for project development, customer access and long-term growth. The national picture is important. But right now the state-by-state picture is telling us more. https://lnkd.in/eKEvABuq

Today's announcement that Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA) will integrate their team and policy work into the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) marks an important moment for the industry. CCSA has spent more than a decade focused on advancing community solar and expanding access to distributed energy. We are grateful to CCSA and its staff for their tireless leadership and partnership over the years. This merger is a common sense consolidation that enables the solar industry to double down on what matters most -- bringing more clean energy to the grid and lowering electricity bills for households and businesses alike.
We are excited to announce that today, CCSA and Solar Energy Industries Association are officially combining organizations, bringing together both team’s expertise and policy work to create a more unified and stronger force for community solar and storage across the country. Combined, the two organizations now form the only national trade association representing every segment of the solar and storage industry, with an expanded network and enhanced capabilities to shape market and policy priorities at both the state and federal levels. Going forward, be sure to follow Solar Energy Industries Association for the latest on community and distributed solar policy and the industry’s work across the country. We're proud to see Solstice, now part of Perch Energy, featured in Microsoft's first-ever Community Energy Program Report! The report highlights Boston Medical Center (BMC)'s Clean Power Prescription program, which uses community solar to help low-income patients access energy bill savings—showing the power of partnerships to create healthier, more resilient communities. Thanks to Microsoft for recognizing the impact of this work!
With AI infrastructure, we often talk about what gets built: datacenters, energy projects, and all the other skills and resources needed to support AI and the cloud services people rely on every day, from education and healthcare to banking, shopping, and staying connected. But we're also thinking about how communities can be stronger because we build there. Reading our new Community Energy Impact Report, I’m reminded the answer looks different in every community. In Chicago, energy-efficiency upgrades help lower household energy costs. In Virginia, a community resilience hub now has solar and battery storage, so it stays running during emergencies. In Maryland, workforce training opens doors to jobs in the energy sector. And around the world, 39 Microsoft Datacenter Academy programs help people build hands-on skills for careers supporting cloud and AI infrastructure. These investments are all created in partnership with communities and shaped by local priorities. No single project transforms a community. But together, these efforts show how responsible infrastructure growth creates more lasting benefits when communities help shape the outcomes from the start. As we continue to build AI infrastructure, speed and scale can't be the only measures of progress. We should also ask: What will be better because we are here? https://lnkd.in/eYqrwd8Q

The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission has taken a major step forward for community solar by adopting consolidated billing with net crediting! We’re grateful for the Commission's leadership and encouraged that the July 2 Order reflects many of the recommendations that Perch (and previously Solstice) has fought for over the past two years. There is still work to do, and we look forward to making sure that the final rule fully reflects the Commission’s intention to adopt net crediting.
