Still more evidence that #edtech harmed American education: Across states, the year that the state imposed mandates requiring computers/tablets, that's the year that test scores stopped rising and in most cases started falling. I'm sure there's a role for tech in education (like Khan Academy), but not as 1:1 devices on students' desks. I hope that many elementary schools will remove devices by September, or create an analog path for parents who want that. Let's see if kids do better with books and paper. Psychologist and parenting expert Dr. Laura Kastner warns: AI isn’t just helping kids with homework, it may be quietly replacing how they learn to think. 🧠 “Struggle is a feature of learning, not a bug,” she explains. When AI takes over the thinking, kids skip the mental work that builds comprehension, judgment and confidence. 👉 Learn why some experts are calling for a collective pause: https://ow.ly/kzju50XTJW6

Lockhart, PsyD, ABPP joins us Oct. 23 for an essential ParentEd Talk to help you recognize mental health red flags, understand what’s driving your teen’s behavior, and respond with strategies that build trust and connection — because while the tween/teen years can be tough, they can also be magical. ❤️ Sign up for the Q&A webinar to join live and get access to the event recording to watch anytime. • 📱 Are school-issued devices really just for learning? “Throughout the school year, I kept reading about numerous problems with student device use at school, one of which put me over the top,” says Seattle mom, Megan Kaul. Kaul explains that research shows many school-issued devices collect and store enormous amounts of student data. Rather than being designed purely for learning, these tools are often used to feed algorithms that predict children’s futures — and that information can end up in the hands of advertisers, college admissions offices, law enforcement and more. Data breaches are also a serious risk, with one incident in January 2025 exposing 62 million student records and 10 million teacher records. 📖 Read this thought-provoking piece here: http://bit.ly/4gNkM1W
