  • Coffee in New York City means something different to everyone. From a quick cup at Dunkin’ to a slower moment at Black Fox Coffee, every choice fits a different part of the day. That’s exactly what we think about as we refine packaging 2.0. It is not only about packaging. It is about sourcing, roasting, and everything that goes into Oval Coffee Roasters every day. And the impact that creates across the entire chain. For consumers. For green coffee producers. For our partners.

This morning on the way to the Chrysler Building - New York to meet up with Christopher Alspach and finalize our Oval Coffee Roasters packaging 2.0 revamp, I passed more than 20 places to grab a cup. From Blue Bottle Coffee to Épicerie Boulud From McDonald's And McCafé to Dunkin ’ From Watchhouse Coffee to Café Grumpy From Tartinery Cafe to Bluestone Lane to Black Fox Coffee The options in New York City are incredible. And honestly… a little dizzying. I had to move fast this morning. Saw an open seat and took it at Pershing Square Restaurant. Went with a large black coffee from Dunkin ’. Simple. Reliable. Exactly what I needed. That’s the beauty of this city. Coffee is everywhere. For everyone. Every moment. Tomorrow… maybe I go a little fancier and stop into Black Fox Coffee. Or maybe I take a moment and sit inside Pershing Square’s Central Cafe. Where did you have your coffee this morning?

  • Coffee reflects something we see every day across New York City. The commute into Manhattan is not just movement. It’s routine. It’s energy. It’s momentum building in real time. And coffee is right there within it. At Oval Coffee Roasters, we think beyond the cup. We think about the moment. The walk to the train. The first sip before the day starts. The transition from one part of the city to the next. Coffee should fit into that rhythm seamlessly. No friction. No complexity. Just a reliable, enjoyable experience that shows up when it matters most.

There’s something about the commute into Manhattan that never gets old. From the Bronx… Down into Midtown… Walking toward the Chrysler Building - New York … Enjoying a cup of Oval Coffee Roasters on the 26th floor with Christopher Alspach … It’s a rhythm. The city wakes up fast. People moving with purpose. Energy building block by block. And somewhere along that commute… there’s always coffee. Not always from the same place. Not always the same quality. Sometimes it’s a quick bodega stop with the classic blue cup. Sometimes it’s a café. Sometimes it’s just whatever is closest. But it works. Because in New York, coffee isn’t just a product. It’s part of the pace. It fuels the commute. It anchors the routine. It connects moments from one neighborhood to the next. From the Bronx to Midtown… From early morning to first meeting… Coffee shows up. And honestly, that consistency might matter more than anything else. Curious… What’s your go-to coffee stop on your commute?

  • Convenience changed coffee. From Green Mountain Coffee Roasters K-Cups to Nestlé Nespresso SA pods, coffee became faster, more consistent, and more accessible across homes, hotels, and offices. It brought more people into the category and reshaped daily rituals. And it worked. But consumer preferences evolve. We are now seeing a shift toward simpler formats that still deliver on quality. Pour over single serves offer a different kind of convenience. No machine. No setup. Just hot water and a mug. A clean, high quality cup wherever you are. At home. In a hotel room. In an office pantry. On the road. This format has been one of the strongest performing areas for us at Oval Coffee Roasters because it meets consumers where they are today. Less waste. More flexibility. Same intention around quality. The future of coffee is not one format replacing another. It is about having the right format for the right moment. Proud to be part of a category that continues to evolve with the consumer. Where are you brewing your coffee most these days?

  • Friday afternoon deliveries matter. Because Saturday morning comes fast. And Sunday does not wait. Today’s drop to Ando Patisserie in Williamsburg was not just about coffee. It was about making sure they are ready. Ready for weekend lines. Ready for early service. Ready to start next week without missing a step. That is where trust is built. Not just in quality, but in service. Foodservice operators rely on consistency in the cup and consistency in execution. That is why partners like Ando Patisserie trust Christopher Alspach’s roasting and trust our team to deliver when it counts. At Oval Coffee Roasters, we support cafés, restaurants, and office programs with 5 lb bulk bags designed for daily performance. Available in: • Bowling Green, Women-Grown, clean and structured • The Natural, fruit-forward and expressive • Riverside, Half Caff, balanced for all-day drinking • Dark Roast, developed for foodservice The same coffees are also available as whole bean bags at retail. From grocery shelves to espresso bars, it is the same standard. Every time. Roasted in the Bronx. Delivered across NYC and beyond. • Most people see the shelf. They don’t see what it takes to get there. This is a glimpse behind the scenes at Oval Coffee Roasters. Fast moving mornings packing whole bean coffee headed to independent natural retailers across the country. Roasted in NYC. Packed by hand. Shipped with intention. From neighborhood markets in New York City to shelves nationwide, every case represents a relationship built over time. These are not easy shelves to earn. And they are even harder to keep. We do not take that for granted. It shows up in how we source. How we roast. How we show up in store. Proud to be building this alongside Christopher Alspach and a growing community of retailers who care deeply about what they put on shelf. Find us on shelf near you using our Store Locator, or search Oval Coffee Roasters on Instacart for delivery. #OvalCoffeeRoasters #NYC #Bronx #SpecialtyCoffee #Retail #CPG #Instacart

  • New York and Philadelphia feel closer than most cities. But walk into a grocery store, and you feel the difference immediately. A couple weeks ago, we hosted a tasting at Sprouts Farmers Market in Philadelphia. In many ways, it felt familiar. The pace, the people, the cultural proximity to New York. But the shopping experience told a different story. Carts filled. Weekly trips. Planned purchases. A rhythm built around stocking up. In New York, it works differently. There is no single shopping day. You go often. You carry what you can. You decide dinner on the walk home. Coffee lives inside that rhythm. It is not just something you buy. It is something you return to. Daily. Sometimes multiple times a day. A small decision that repeats and refines itself. That is where products are truly tested. Not in a single moment. But in the accumulation of many. Different cities. Different habits. But coffee connects both. And when it resonates, it travels. If you are interested in how we think about coffee, retail, and daily rituals, take a moment to read our latest journal entry and follow along on the journey. Link in the comments.

  • Always great to see where the coffee ends up. A few bags of our Riverside blend, our half caff, picked up at Sprouts Farmers Market near Arizona State University and headed straight into a shared pantry. That’s exactly how we think about it. Coffee that fits into real routines. Morning, afternoon, later in the day. Balanced. Approachable. Consistent. Plenty still available in store displays for now. If you come across Oval Coffee Roasters on shelf, we’d love to see it. Tag us and share where you found it.

My cousin Austin Fern at Arizona State University sent me this out of nowhere. Getting a text like this means a lot. Quick stop at Sprouts Farmers Market near campus… grabbed a few bags of our Riverside blend, our half caff, for the fraternity pantry. A little caffeine, a little balance. Probably the right call. Plenty of bags still in the shipper… for now. Austin, on the other hand, might already be taken. You spend so much time thinking about distribution, shelf placement, pricing, velocity… and then something like this comes through and reminds you what it’s really about. Coffee showing up in real routines. Dorms. Homes. Shared kitchens. Everyday moments. Grateful to see it. If you see one of our Oval Coffee Roasters shippers in store, snap a photo and tag us. Would love to see where it shows up next.

  • New York City is our backyard. We roast in the Bronx, just a few miles from many of the stores where our coffee is on shelf today. From Dumbo Market and Brooklyn Fare to Lifethyme Natural Market, Mulberry Market, and Westerly Natural Market, these are some of the most thoughtful, space-constrained retailers in the country. Every inch of shelf matters, and every product has to earn its place. We are grateful to be part of that. Earlier this month, we spent time on the floor with customers, hosting demos at Sprouts Farmers Market in Philadelphia and closer to home at Dumbo Market in DUMBO, Brooklyn. These moments matter. They connect the product directly to people, and bring the shelf to life. Across NYC, it has been great to see Oval on shelf with partners, as well as through Instacart and everyday neighborhood discovery. This month’s Journal brings these ideas together • The rhythm of New York grocery and why it shapes how we build • Coffee appearing in unexpected places, including collections like the Neue Galerie New York and the legacy of Estée Lauder • Coffee Question #3: How is decaf coffee produced? We are proud to be building locally, and optimistic about what comes next as we continue to grow a network of INFRA and National Co+op Grocers retailers nationwide through KeHE. If you have seen Oval on shelf, in New York or beyond, we would love to hear where. • New York food culture has a reputation. Pizza. Bagels. Daily rituals built around simple things done well. Water is part of that story. New York City water is naturally soft and consistent, creating a clean base for flavor. That matters in baking. And it matters just as much in coffee. Coffee is mostly water. So starting with something balanced and reliable helps everything else come through. At Oval Coffee Roasters, we focus on sourcing and roasting with intention, knowing the final cup reflects every step along the way. From mountain reservoirs to your morning routine.

Everyone talks about New York pizza. Everyone talks about New York bagels. And almost always, the conversation comes back to one thing. The water. Last week I shared a simple coffee ratio. 1 to 16. Coffee to water. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized we rarely talk about the other side of that equation. Why does New York water come up so often? Because it is naturally soft. Because it is sourced from protected mountain reservoirs. Because it travels through a gravity fed system that keeps it clean and consistent. It is part of what people associate with the food culture here. Pizza. Bagels. And yes, coffee too. Every cup of coffee is mostly water. So the starting point matters. Not better. Not worse. Just a really solid foundation to build on. At Oval Coffee Roasters, we think about how to pair intentional sourcing and roasting with that foundation. From protected mountains to your cup. Intention, Poured Over.

  • Great coffee starts with clarity. The 1:16 ratio is one of the simplest ways to bring consistency into your daily routine. It allows the coffee to express itself the way it was intended. Clean, balanced, and approachable. We focus on making specialty coffee easy to understand and even easier to enjoy at home. If you are dialing in your brew this week, start here. Search Oval Coffee Roasters on Instacart or find a store near you to bring this into your own kitchen. Intention, Poured Over.

Fridays have a different kind of energy. You’ve put in the work. Now it’s about finishing strong. Here’s one simple way to elevate your morning: A better cup of coffee. Not more coffee. Better coffee. Start with this: The 1:16 ratio 1 gram of coffee → 16 grams (or mL) of water • 30g coffee → 480mL water • Clean. Balanced. Consistent. Then layer in: • Grind fresh • Use good water • 30 second bloom That’s it. Small shift. Big difference. At Oval Coffee Roasters, we believe great coffee should be simple and intentional. Intention, Poured Over. — Want to try this at home? Search Oval Coffee Roasters on Instacart or find a store near you. — How are you dialing in your coffee heading into the weekend?
