📘 New article out, an important shift in how we think about science. 🔬 Decentralized Science won’t replace universities — it will replace gatekeeping. A great new article by Dr. Florian Smeritschnig in collaboration with Christian Abegglen, Prof., Dr. oec. HSG StGallen Integrated imt Business School highlights a core issue in modern science: "Research is digital and global, but funding, publication, and recognition are still locked behind outdated systems." Key takeaway 👇 • Science doesn’t have a discovery problem • It has a distribution and incentive problem The future is a hybrid model: universities provide foundations, open networks remove friction 🔓. Worth a read if you care about the future of science and education. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dbnciGi9 #OpenDeSci #DeSci #Science #OpenScience #Innovation

Great meeting in Berlin 🇩🇪
Great discussion with Christian Abegglen, Prof., Dr. oec. HSG StGallen Integrated imt Business School, advisor to OpenDeSci Foundation 🔬. Key challenges in science we discussed: 📄 ~75% of scientific papers are never cited, indicating limited discoverability and downstream impact 🔒 More than 50% of research outputs remain behind paywalls, limiting access for non-academic audiences ⏳ Average lag from research discovery to real-world application is 10–15 years, particularly in health and applied sciences 🧠 Scientific communication remains optimized for journals, while short-form, visual, and digital-first formats dominate modern learning behavior ⚖️ Incentive structures prioritize publication volume and citations over clarity, reuse, or societal impact Core takeaway: Science does not suffer from a lack of discovery. It suffers from distribution, accessibility, and incentive misalignment. At OpenDeSci Foundation, we are building tools at the intersection of AI, Web3, and education to help scientific knowledge travel faster, reach broader audiences, and create transparent mechanisms for recognition and collaboration.

🔬 Science is broken for the next generation Despite $2.75T invested annually in global R&D, science often fails to connect with society at large: - 80%+ of global research is locked behind paywalls or jargon-heavy formats - Gen Z/Y report finding science “boring” or inaccessible - High-quality science communicators earn 85% less than general content creators, while misinformation spreads faster As Christian Abegglen, Prof., Dr. oec. HSG (President, StGallen Integrated imt Business School & Advisor to OpenDeSci Foundation) highlights: “Science has become increasingly disconnected from normal people, limiting engagement and innovation for 8 billion people worldwide.” At OpenDeSci, we are addressing this challenge by: ✨ Turning complex research into engaging, AI-powered content ✨ Building a Web3-enabled ecosystem that rewards scientists fairly ✨ Partnering with leading academics and institutions

🚀 We’re live on LinkedIn! Thrilled to officially introduce OpenDeSci — an award-winning, next-generation science education and content platform powered by AI + Web3. 👉 Our mission: To make science radically more accessible, engaging, and transparent for 8 billion people worldwide. Why now? 🔵 94% of researchers want their work to reach broader audiences, but most of science remains locked behind paywalls and jargon. 🔵 At the same time, billions consume short-form content daily — but high-quality science is almost missing from the feed. That’s where OpenDeSci comes in: ✨ TikTok-style AI science feed that transforms knowledge into engaging, viral content. ✨ AI-powered researcher profiles to make science more open. ✨ Scientific Paper AI Explorer to simplify complex research. This is just the beginning — we’re building a movement to make science open, educational, and impactful for everyone.
