Private equity has benchmarks for everything. But a true leading indicator? That's new. We built the Ontra Market Index to track deal intent before LOIs, before due diligence, before anything closes. Every transaction starts with an NDA, and that makes NDA volume one of the earliest signals in the market. When deal activity dropped after the Liberation Day tariff announcement, we saw it within days. Closed deal data didn't confirm it until June. The recovery showed up in NDAs first, too. Our latest data points to Q1 2026 deal volume landing only 5% below Q1 2025 levels. That signal exists right now. Closed deal data won't catch up until June.
