Kuda is growing fast: in Q1 2025 alone, the neobank processed over 300 million transactions. But behind the scenes, procurement approvals and contracts were still running on emails, Slack threads, and shared drives. Last week at SIG Dallas, Leon Gibson was joined on stage by Brent Boitmann (Head of Procurement, Goosehead Insurance) to discuss what it takes to build a strategic procurement function from scratch. Brent’s guiding principle? You can’t automate chaos. As the company’s first-ever procurement hire, Brent described the tactical struggle of manually connecting the business with legal, security, and finance—and how quickly that becomes unsustainable without the right process and technology. He also shared how he navigated the hire vs. buy decision, ultimately choosing AI orchestration over additional headcount to handle the tactical noise so he could focus on strategic relationships.
