Protect Those Who Protect Us. $648 Million in Grant Funding Now Available to Support Fire Service Operations. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has made $648 million available in grant funding across three fire grant programs to support firefighters and first responders as they work to keep communities safe. These programs help fire departments address critical needs such as maintaining safe staffing levels, upgrading essential equipment, and advancing research that improves firefighter health and safety. - Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) – $291.6 million available to help fire departments and EMS agencies purchase personal protective equipment, replace or upgrade emergency response vehicles, and invest in training and responder wellness initiatives. - Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) – $324 million available to support hiring, recruitment, and retention efforts so departments can maintain safe, effective staffing levels. - Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) – $32.4 million available for fire departments, nonprofit organizations, and research institutions to conduct fire prevention research, community risk reduction initiatives, and studies on firefighter safety, health, and well-being. Strengthen Treatment Capacity. Support Successful Reentry. Apply for the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Grant Program. The OHIO OFFICE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES (OCJS) is now accepting applications for the Residential Substance Abuse Treatment (RSAT) Grant Program. This funding helps correctional agencies enhance access to evidence‑based substance use disorder treatment and improve reentry outcomes for individuals returning to their communities. The RSAT grant supports projects that enhance treatment environments in correctional facilities, deliver evidence‑based services that address substance use, and connect participants with recovery support after release. These efforts are intended to reduce recidivism, improve long‑term recovery outcomes, and increase community safety. Funding may cover up to 75 percent of total project costs, with a required 25 percent cash or in‑kind match. Entities eligible to apply include counties, cities, townships, villages, councils of government, and local aftercare facilities.
