  • This project is a strong example of how rendering is becoming the creative unlock, not just the final step. Much of what you’re seeing on screen is built from Gaussian Splats, volumetric 3D assets that preserve real-world motion and depth while allowing far more flexibility than traditional video or geometry. By bringing these assets together in Houdini and rendering with Octane 2026, the team was able to separate performance from camera, opening up entirely new ways to frame, move, and shape the final image. Nothing here was generated or fabricated. Real performances were captured, then transformed through next-generation rendering using Octane 2026’s spectrally correct GPU path tracing. As formats like Gaussian Splats continue to mature, they’re reshaping workflows across music, film, advertising, and immersive media, bridging physical capture and fully cinematic control in a way that wasn’t possible before. https://lnkd.in/gPdVWHse Learn More: https://lnkd.in/ekGFqEr3

  • Gaussian splats are quickly becoming one of the most flexible asset formats in modern 3D, opening new doors for how we build and render spatial content. Octane 2026 brings splats into a fully cinematic context, making them relightable, dynamic, and easy to integrate with traditional geometry and simulations. This reel brings together dozens of real production-style exercises, from clipping and staging full world splats, to relighting and tinting assets, driving dynamics and interactions, and pushing everything into final-quality renders. What’s exciting here isn’t just performance, it’s accessibility. Splats allow photographers, designers, VFX artists, and 3D artists to work from the same lightweight, spatial assets, without heavy pipelines or tool lock-in. If Gaussian splat rendering is on your radar, Octane 2026 is where it comes together.

Excited to share our latest artist spotlight featuring David Lisser, whose work explores fragility, decay, and transformation through cutting-edge 3D tools like GSOPs in Houdini and OctaneRender. In the article David breaks down how he uses point clouds and splat-based simulations to reinterpret real-world objects - often flowers and other organic forms into dissolving digital still life works. He shares how Octane helps him craft emotion through light, atmosphere, and transparency, and how the tools influence his process from capture to final render. This is a beautiful blend of art and computation - one that highlights just how far Gaussian splats have come as a creative medium. • Mastering Spherical Harmonics in Octane with Gaussian Splats Gaussian Splats are changing the way we think about real-time 3D assets, but Spherical Harmonics (SH) play a huge role in how these splats behave. From flat, diffuse shading at degree 0 → to full-spectrum variance at degree 3, SH levels directly affect: Shading & light response File size & optimization Render time efficiency In this walkthrough, we break down how SH degrees work, how to prep assets with SuperSplat, and how Octane’s relighting system gives you full creative control. Watch the full tutorial here → Mastering Spherical Harmonics in Octane with Gaussian Splats In this breakdown, we explore how different Spherical Harmonic (SH) degrees affect Gaussian Splats - from flat diffuse looks (0) to full-spectrum shading (3). We’ll cover: How SH degrees impact shading & light variance Using SH levels to optimize file size and render times Relighting splats in Octane for full creative control Practical workflows with SuperSplat + Octane 2026 Free downloadable splat assets are included so you can test it out yourself (link in the description). Watch the tutorial here: https://lnkd.in/gJbAYheD Free splat assets included for testing (see video descrition) Whether you’re pushing for optimization in large environments or dialing in fidelity for hero assets, understanding SH can help you get the most out of Gaussian Splats in Octane 2026. #GaussianSplats #OctaneRender #SphericalHarmonics #3DRendering #CGI #Workflow

  • Congrats to Claudio Miranda, ASC, on his latest cinematography for F1 - Apple's biggest box office hit to date! We hope you have time over this Holiday weekend to go and check it out! Claudio’s cutting-edge immersive approach to cinematography continues to shape modern filmmaking. From redefining aerial cinematography in Top Gun: Maverick to now capturing the precision and adrenaline of Formula 1 racing, his work consistently pushes the boundaries of what audiences can experience. For F1, Claudio partnered again with director Joseph Kosinski to engineer ultra-compact 6K cameras mounted directly inside F1 cars, giving viewers an unprecedented cockpit perspective at over 200 mph. Behind the scenes, Octane X played an instrumental role in his process. Claudio has long used Octane X for photorealistic previsualization and lighting studies - enabling him to plan shots virtually with cinematic precision before ever stepping on set. It’s this dedication to combining cutting-edge tools with artistic vision that makes his work both technically groundbreaking and deeply immersive. Read more about how Claudio uses Octane X for previsualization in this FX Guide by Mike Seymour with OTOY’s Jules Urbach. https://lnkd.in/gST6EPCc  And learn more about Claudio’s work on F1: https://lnkd.in/gmZZdySG
