  • There is a pattern showing up in healthcare finance leadership searches that deserves a closer look.  Health systems are investing heavily in AI-enabled revenue cycle tools, Epic migrations, and automation. Yet many are discovering that the real constraint is not the technology. It is the leadership capacity to drive adoption, manage change across a complex organization, and sustain performance through a transformation that never really ends.  Our colleagues at Furst Group have published new research on the revenue cycle leadership market, and the findings reinforce what we see in leadership development work across industries: organizations tend to hire for functional expertise and underinvest in the change-leadership capabilities that determine whether a transformation succeeds.  The leaders who can lead through influence, build trust across previously separate cultures, and develop high-performing teams while simultaneously managing escalating complexity are the ones in shortest supply.  Worth a read, as the challenges technology poses on leadership are industry-agnostic.  Link in comments.  #LeadershipDevelopment #OrganizationalLeadership #ChangeLeadership #TeamDevelopment #HealthcareLeaders

  • The CMO transition is one of the most significant leadership shifts in healthcare. Every physician arrives at the CMO role with decades of hard-earned expertise, but the transition asks them to lead from a different skill set. Joe Mazzenga, Managing Partner at NuBrick Partners, has spent decades in that space, engaging with physician leaders on the mindset shifts and intentional development that help strong clinicians grow into the executive leaders their organizations need. If you are navigating that transition or preparing for one, Joe's latest conversation with Lee Scheinbart, MD, CPE, FAAPL, on The Fire Chief - The Chief Medical Officer Podcast is a great way to understand what it truly takes to lead at that level. #PhysicianLeader #LeadershipDevelopment #ExecutiveLeadership

The CMO transition to an enterprise-level leadership role is a new land. You're expected to be bilingual, and you haven't spoken the language before. I've spent over 30 years engaging with physician executives who make this transition. The success rate is, honestly, hit-or-miss. Not because of intelligence or clinical expertise, but because the sage axiom applies, “What got you here won't get you there.” The physicians who break through are the ones who show up with curiosity, vulnerability, and humility. They ask for the last 10% – honest career-limiting feedback most people often don’t hear or may not want to hear. And when they're finished receiving it, the only two words they say are, "Thank you." I sat down with Lee Scheinbart, MD, CPE, FAAPL, on The Fire Chief - The Chief Medical Officer Podcast to talk about what this transition really looks like; the mindset shifts, the unlearning, and what it means to lead from the bridge instead of the deck. Read the recap and listen to the podcast here: https://lnkd.in/gDWb-mqV If you're considering a move into physician executive leadership, I'd be happy to connect and share perspectives on positioning yourself for success.

  • We launched the NuBrick Partners Leadership Book Club to create space for meaningful conversations about the challenges leaders face and the insights that help them navigate those challenges successfully.  For our inaugural episode, Amy Mills shared insights from The Leadership Pipeline by Ram Charan and colleagues, focusing on the difficult transition from technical expert to strategic leader.  The response has been incredible, and now we want to hear from you: What leadership topics, challenges, or books would you like us to explore in future episodes?  We're particularly interested in:  Leadership books that have shaped your approach or that you return to again and again  Transitions or passages you're navigating right now in your own leadership journey  Challenges your teams are facing that would benefit from expert perspectives  Topics that would strengthen your organization's leadership development programs  Specific questions about building resilient, change-agile teams  This series is being built based on what matters most to the leaders in our community. Your input will help us create episodes that address the real challenges you're facing and provide actionable insights you can apply immediately.  Drop your suggestions in the comments or reach out directly if you'd prefer to share privately.  And if you haven't watched the inaugural episode yet, the link is in the comments. Amy's insights from the book on the 95% rule, the time allocation exercise, and why "But I like doing that work" is the most common resistance she hears are worth your time.  What’s your go-to leadership book?  #LeadershipDevelopment #ExecutiveCoaching #Leadership #TeamPerformance

  • This question generates more anxiety among CMO candidates than almost any other. The traditional binary thinking oversimplifies a complex decision with multiple variables and creative solutions.  We've placed CMOs who maintain active clinical practice and others who don't see patients. Both approaches can work, depending on organizational factors, role scope, and personal preference.  Swipe through for a framework to guide your decision, then read the complete article for real examples and strategic considerations.  [LINK in Comments]  #PhysicianLeadership #CMO #HealthcareLeaders #CareerPlanning

When a new leader fails, how often is it actually about the individual, versus the team they walked into? That was the opening question Amy Mills, PhD, posed to a room full of global executive search leaders today at the IIC Partners 2026 Global Meeting in Vancouver, and it immediately shifted the conversation. Her session on using team insights to enhance new leader success and retention covered what team assessments actually measure, which tools fit which situations, and why team issues are so often misdiagnosed as individual problems. The takeaway that resonated most: team culture matters, and the best assessment solutions are multi-method. Amy also led the group through an experiential exercise using the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, demonstrating firsthand why experiential methods create stronger insight and buy-in than a report ever could. Thank you to IIC Partners for putting together such a wonderful event! #TeamAssessment #LeadershipDevelopment #ExecutiveSearch #Leadership #IICPartners

  • The leaders who grow the fastest are the ones who do the hardest things, ask for honest feedback, and use it to become better executive leaders.  Building that kind of self-awareness is one of the most powerful skill a physician executive can do in their first year of leadership.  Joe Mazzenga, Managing Partner at NuBrick Partners, shares more on The Fire Chief - The Chief Medical Officer Podcast.  Read the full recap and listen to the podcast.
