AI is opening new possibilities for next-generation manufacturing, and drones will be a major part of that future. Yesterday, in line with the Trump Administration’s AI Action Plan, NTIA convened leaders from across government and industry to discuss how we can strengthen the U.S. drone sector and advance American leadership in this critical technology. We heard from industry leaders on the challenges facing the drone industry—from supply chain and production bottlenecks to the need for greater collaboration between government and industry—and the opportunities to accelerate AI innovation and unlock the full potential of drones. Thank you to the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) for co-hosting yesterday’s convening and bringing stakeholders together for this important discussion. NTIA is proud to lead this effort and work with our partners across government and industry to ensure the United States remains at the forefront of drone and AI innovation.

About us
The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), located within the Department of Commerce, is the Executive Branch agency that is principally responsible for advising the President on telecommunications and information policy issues. NTIA’s programs and policymaking focus largely on expanding broadband Internet access and adoption in America, expanding the use of spectrum by all users, and ensuring that the Internet remains an engine for continued innovation and economic growth. These goals are critical to America’s competitiveness in the 21st century global economy and to addressing many of the nation’s most pressing needs, such as improving education, health care, and public safety.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, which claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 Americans and was the deadliest day for first responders in our nation’s history. We remember those we lost that day and honor the heroes who risked their lives to help their fellow Americans in need. The response to these attacks exposed critical gaps in first responder communications, with public safety officials struggling to communicate with one another across agencies and jurisdictions, while commercial wireless networks became overwhelmed under extraordinary demand. The push to fix those gaps led Congress to the create the nationwide FirstNet network—a dedicated communications platform built specifically for first responders, giving them the reliable, interoperable connectivity they need to coordinate during emergencies. Today, we are building on that progress. NTIA is working to ensure universal broadband availability in the United States, advance Next Generation 911 and support the integration of AI into emergency response, while also providing critical oversight of FirstNet to ensure that it is always delivering for the bravest among us. We will never forget those who lost their lives, the families and communities that were forever changed, and the courage of those who answered the call. We honor their memory by continuing to strengthen the communications systems that protect Americans when they need it most.

NTIA recently partnered with USTTI to deliver a Satellite Connectivity Training in Nassau, The Bahamas —bringing together decision-makers from 15 Latin American and Caribbean countries to discuss domestic and international policy positions that will enable high-speed satellite connectivity and universal broadband availability. The group touched on critical issues like spectrum access, satellite coordination, licensing and filing, as well as the upcoming 2027 World Radiocommunication Conference. This follows a similar training hosted by NTIA and USTTI this past May, where NTIA and USTTI brought together 20 African countries in Accra, Ghana. While in The Bahamas, NTIA Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Tricia Paoletta met with Ambassador Herschel Walker and others on the ground for the ITU World Telecommunications/ICT Policy Forum to discuss how the United States and our partners can collaborate more closely on important communications issues, including on ensuring policies support outcomes that allow all citizens to benefit from satellite connectivity.

NTIA is taking another step toward universal broadband availability by empowering states and territories to use their BEAD savings to address locations that may remain unserved—including those affected by changes in previous federal and state broadband programs. Assistant Secretary Roth made the announcement with Senator Dan Sullivan in Anchorage, Alaska, during a roundtable with several Alaskan broadband providers. Roth and her team were in Alaska to see firsthand the unique challenges of connecting Alaska’s remote communities—and why the Trump Administration's oversight-driven, technology-neutral approach is so critical to achieving universal connectivity. NTIA invites parents, students, educators, and child development specialists to join us for our upcoming listening session on classroom screen use and its effects on student learning and development. We want to hear directly from families and educators about what they are seeing in schools—including the use of one-to-one devices, the role of screens in instruction, the effects on student learning, attention, and development, and whether parents have meaningful choices when it comes to technology use in the classroom. This session will inform work across the Trump Administration, including the FCC’s review of the E-Rate program. For more information and how to register: https://lnkd.in/eDra6HXQ

We just reached a major milestone in closing the digital divide. 🎉 NTIA has now approved all 56 BEAD Final Proposals, putting every state and territory on a path to universal broadband availability. More importantly, this achievement marks the next phase of BEAD: deployment. NTIA will continue working with states and territories as they turn these plans into action and connect Americans. To mark today’s milestone, Assistant Secretary Arielle Roth traveled to Southwest Virginia with Congressman Morgan Griffith to see firsthand how BEAD is leveraging different technologies to connect rural communities, like those in Bedford County. One year. Real results for the American people. Under Assistant Secretary Arielle Roth’s leadership for the past year, NTIA has advanced universal broadband availability while saving taxpayers billions, strengthened public safety communications, promoted American leadership in AI and next-generation wireless technologies, and modernized how the federal government manages one of our nation’s most valuable resources: spectrum. The Trump Administration is removing barriers to investment and unleashing private sector innovation and competition to strengthen America’s communications infrastructure for decades to come. And we’re just getting started. Read more about our accomplishments during Assistant Secretary Roth’s first year: https://lnkd.in/eAjSegev
