Nelson Mullins Partner John F. Haley was quoted in S&P Global discussing Venezuela’s efforts to restructure its sovereign and oil company debt and what the process could mean for investor confidence and the country’s energy sector. Haley noted that sovereign debt and the obligations of state oil company PDVSA are deeply interconnected, adding, “On the oil and gas obligations that are owed to operators or big oil, there has to be some sign that those are going to be addressed.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gsXyjGxG

How can Value-Based Enterprises (VBEs) help organizations succeed under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) Transforming Episode Accountability Model (TEAM)? At the 2025 Nelson Mullins Value-Based Care Conference, Mike Segal moderated a focused discussion with Ed White (Nelson Mullins), Robert Ball (Enlace Health), and Luis Argueso (InHealth Advisors) on how hospitals, specialists, and physician groups can leverage VBEs to navigate TEAM’s financial accountability and regulatory requirements. The conversation explored how VBEs can simplify program management by creating unified legal and operational frameworks, supporting scalable care coordination models, and offering regulatory safe harbor protections across episodes and payers. Panelists also emphasized that success in value-based care depends on aligning incentives with measurable performance. Without meaningful financial and operational incentives, traditional care patterns can persist, making accountability, compliance, and behavioral change essential to long-term success. For organizations preparing for TEAM and future value-based models, early investment in VBEs is more than a compliance strategy. It is a foundation for sustainable performance. We’re proud to see firmwide Pro Bono Manager Norah Cooney Rogers helping lead important conversations about the future of pro bono service at the Equal Justice Conference. As nonprofits and communities navigate evolving legal and economic challenges, collaboration across the legal profession remains critical. Thank you to Lawyers For Good Government, the American Bar Association Center for Pro Bono, the National Legal Aid & Defender Association, and all those advancing innovative approaches to expanding access to justice and strengthening civil society.
Last week at the Equal Justice Conference, L4GG showed up across two important conversations about the future of pro bono. Traci Feit Love, our Founder & Executive Director, joined the Association of Pro Bono Counsel - APBCo on hot topics in pro bono. She shared L4GG’s pro bono response since 2025, where our programs are headed, and how firms can support the work. She was joined on the panel by Lara Finkbeiner of Democracy Forward, with Norah Rogers of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough moderating. Lauren Worsek, our Director of Pro Bono Initiatives, and Jillian Blanchard, our Senior Vice President of Climate Change & Environmental Justice, presented on the main conference panel “Defending Civil Society: Innovative Pro Bono Models for Protecting Nonprofits Under Pressure” — alongside Michelle Roos of the Environmental Protection Network and Bob Glaves of The Chicago Bar Foundation. The conversation came at the right moment. Nonprofit organizations are navigating federal funding freezes, tax-exempt status challenges, and congressional oversight all at once. We continue to see how much depends on the legal community building tiered support systems that can scale to meet the need — from immediate technical triage to sustained legal counsel. Grateful to the organizers at American Bar Association Center for Pro Bono and National Legal Aid & Defender Association, our co-panelists, and every attorney showing up for this work! #EJC2026
