Earlier today, the House Energy & Commerce Committee advanced the bipartisan School-Based Health Centers Reauthorization Act of 2026 (H.R. 8209), led by Rep. Paul Tonko of New York, with unanimous committee support! Members on both sides of the aisle spoke powerfully about the critical role School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) play in expanding access to care for children and families nationwide. Watch Rep. Tonko discuss the importance of the bill, highlighting the great work of SBHCs in his district, Whitney M. Young, Jr. Health Center, and Hometown Health Centers. #ValueCHCs

Yesterday marked the first meeting of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Healthcare Advisory Committee (HAC). We are proud that NACHC President & CEO, Kyu Rhee, MD, MPP, is serving as a member of the committee, helping bring the voice of Community Health Centers (CHCs) to these important conversations shaping the future of U.S. health care. The HAC will focus on improving patient care and modernizing the health care system by advancing solutions to better manage chronic disease, reduce administrative burden, expand the use of real-time data, strengthen care for populations with limited access, and improve quality and outcomes across the system. Dr. Rhee is also leading HAC’s Improving Care for Vulnerable Populations Working Group alongside Val Huhn, Director of the Missouri Department of Mental Health, and Bill Gassen, President & CEO of Sanford Health, the nation’s largest rural health system. CHCs serve more than 52 million patients nationwide — including 1 in 3 people living in rural America — delivering affordable, comprehensive primary and preventive care in more than 17,000 communities across the country. Dr. Rhee’s participation helps ensure those patient and provider perspectives are represented as policymakers work to strengthen access, improve health outcomes, and build a more effective and sustainable health care system.
