On March 31, 1889, Frances Xavier Cabrini arrived in New York to serve people facing poverty, illness, and discrimination. She went on to establish 67 hospitals, orphanages, and schools across the country. In 1946, she became the first American citizen to be canonized as a saint, recognized for a life defined by service and action. That legacy lives on through the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. To date, we have invested more than $1.2 billion across New York State to expand access to health care, strengthen the healthcare workforce, support mental and behavioral health, and meet basic needs—carrying forward Mother Cabrini’s belief that dignity demands action. Together, we are building a healthier New York for all. #MotherCabriniHealthFoundation #MotherCabrini #WomensHistoryMonth #WomensHistory

Did you know that today is Health Workforce Well‑Being Day? We salute the National Academy of Medicine for advancing this movement grounded in evidence, action, and the belief that a workforce that is valued and supported is foundational to quality care, patient safety, and community health. Through our Health Workforce investments, the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation partners with organizations all across New York to improve workplace conditions, build career pathways, reduce burnout, improve retention, and expand access to mental health support for home care workers, allied health professionals, nurses, and clinicians. This work centers on what health workers themselves tell us they need: leadership development, trauma‑informed training, mentorship, career ladders, and wraparound support like childcare, transportation, and evidence‑based mental health programs — particularly in high‑stress and high‑need settings. These are not one‑off solutions. They are system‑level strategies that create healthier environments where essential health care professionals can stay, grow, and thrive. Being at Xavier University of Louisiana during Women’s History Month added a powerful layer of meaning to the 19th Conference on Improving Health Outcomes – especially while hearing our Foundation’s EVP Channon Lucas deliver her presentation, “Beyond the Grant: A Foundation’s Investment in Community Engagement and Partnership to Improve Health Access.” Xavier’s very existence is a testament to the vision of Saint Katharine Drexel, who built educational institutions to expand opportunity for communities long denied. Sitting in a university shaped by her legacy, and listening to Channon speak about the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation—named for Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, Drexel’s contemporary and a fellow architect of institutions serving immigrants and other underserved communities—created a striking historical continuum. These two women, separated by geography but united in purpose, showed what it looks like to turn conviction into action. Their lives remind us that service, persistence, and faith can build structures that outlast any single moment. Channon’s remarks echoed that truth. By framing of this moment as a “crucible,” she underscored that philanthropy must stretch far beyond grantmaking. Foundations are being called to serve as conveners, connectors, and long-term partners—rooted in community engagement as the bedrock of health equity and trust. Grateful for the dialogue, the setting, and the ongoing challenge to think—and act—beyond the grant. #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenInPhilanthropy #HealthEquity #CommunityHealth #Philanthropy #MotherCabrini #XavierUniversity

This Women’s History Month, we honor the extraordinary legacy of Frances Xavier Cabrini – better known as Mother Cabrini – an immigrant, educator, and the first American citizen to be canonized. Born in Italy and arriving in the US in 1889, she dedicated her life to serving immigrants, children, and families who had been pushed to the margins. She founded schools, hospitals, and social service institutions across the country – acts rooted in her unwavering belief in compassion, justice, dignity, and the transformative power of service. Her leadership was bold. Her courage was relentless. And her mission – to uplift those most in need – continues to inspire generations and the work of our Foundation. Carrying forward her legacy, we celebrate the women who advance continue this work today - especially the remarkable women of our Foundation and those serving communities across New York State. From essential workers and teachers, to caregivers, advocates, and leaders in every field, these changemakers embody the same spirit of service and purpose that Mother Cabrini championed. This month, and always, uplift the women whose strength, compassion, vision and service move our communities forward. Their impact is lasting, their contributions, invaluable, and their stories a powerful reminder that women are – and always have been – at the heart of meaningful change. #WomensHistoryMonth #BoldAndCourageous #MotherCabrini #WomenWhoLead #Changemakers #ServiceInAction #NewYorkState
