Paid leave is a lifeline. Companies are treating it like a perk. And that’s a mistake. The business case for paid leave is airtight: ▪️Companies that implement it see nearly 5% greater revenue and almost 7% greater profit per employee ▪️Parents who receive more than 12 weeks are 80% less likely to leave ▪️Replacing one person costs up to 200% of their salary Companies cutting paid leave aren’t cutting costs. They're cutting their future — and signaling to every working mother exactly where she stands. Correction: this article was written by Claire Cain Miller. • $350 a month? Bless his heart. Since 1990, childcare costs have risen 263%, nearly double the rate of inflation. Depending on where you live, full-time summer care can run up to $3,500 a month. And that's for one child. The gap between what people think childcare costs and what it actually costs tells you everything. Prices have skyrocketed nearly unchecked. The burden on families is outsized. It's past time we fixed this.

  • Every single year we see: ❌ 1.44 billion lost work hours ❌ Up to $70 billion in direct losses to businesses from absenteeism and turnover ❌ Nearly 1 million full-time workers effectively removed from the economy Not because people don't want to work, but because child care isn't there when they need it. Our report released in April with analysis by McKinsey & Company reveals what working parents — especially the 80% of the workforce in jobs that can't be done remotely — have known for years: when care falls through, work falls apart. And the costs of inaction are staggering. Read the full The New York Sun story by Hollie McKay at https://lnkd.in/drpq6EZ9

  • Our documentary No Country for Mothers broke the world record for most producers ever credited on a film — surpassing a record held since 1991. 2,500+ mothers, caregivers, and advocates signed on as Associate Producers, making this documentary not just a film but a collective act of organizing. The film premieres June 15 and will roll out through 1,000+ screenings across all 50 states. It won't be available to stream. The only way to see it is in community. If you're an advocate, organizer, employer, or elected official who wants to bring this conversation to your audience, host a screening this summer. Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/gBAWyfwx

  • What does it look like when mothers across the country watch the same film, at the same time, and talk back? We're about to find out. On June 17th, Moms First is hosting a national virtual watch party of No Country for Mothers, our documentary with Culture House Media about American motherhood and the growing movement fighting for the support families deserve. Our Founder & CEO Reshma Saujani will open the evening, then we'll screen the full film together with a live chat running throughout. Real-time reactions, real community, from every corner of the country. This is the official launch of the American Motherhood Tour — and this watch party is where it begins. 🗓️ Wednesday, June 17 | 7–8:30pm EDT | Free & virtual 🔗 Register at https://lnkd.in/ed9SNfTn

  • May-cember is in full swing 🫡 ✓ Spirit week ✓ Field day ✓ Awards ceremonies ✓ Teacher appreciation ✓ Class picnic ✓ “Dress like your favorite book character tomorrow” texts sent at 9:47 PM. The end of the school year is chaos for every mom. But somehow, working moms are expected to keep their jobs running like none of this is happening. THIS is why flexibility matters. Because parents shouldn’t have to choose between being present at work and present for their children. Video via @/uhhuhhannah

Join us TOMORROW for a webinar on what's actually working when it comes to child care and workforce stability. McKinsey & Company will present findings from The Foundational Workers Report, which found that child care disruptions are costing U.S. businesses up to $70 billion annually, with the heaviest impact on foundational workers: nurses, teachers, manufacturing, hospitality, and retail employees. The people you can't automate or leave unfilled. We'll walk through the findings and hear directly from JBS USA, Simple Modern, and UAMS - University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences — employers already investing in child care solutions and seeing measurable returns. If you're thinking about talent retention, absenteeism, or operational continuity, this is the conversation to be in. Register now at https://lnkd.in/eexXTJfN
