This Memorial Day, progress on the Grinnell Veterans Monument carries extra meaning. For decades, this corner of Central Park has been a place of remembrance. Now, it is becoming something new: a lasting tribute to the men and women who served, sacrificed, and carried the weight of freedom for the rest of us. Seeing the monument take shape is a reminder that remembrance is not passive. It is something we build, protect, and pass on. Today, we honor those who gave everything. Each year, MODUS participates in the Market to Market Relay from Jefferson to Des Moines. It has become a staple event for our team and a strong reflection of our culture. Events like this matter. They give our people a chance to compete together, support each other, and build relationships outside the normal workday. That carries back into the way we collaborate as a firm. This year, the MODUS team finished 16th overall out of 186 teams and 2nd in the corporate category. Together, they ran 71.4 miles at a 7:09 per mile pace. At MODUS, we value the talent, leadership, and perspective women bring to our projects and teams. Their contributions strengthen collaboration, improve problem-solving, and help move our industry forward. We’re proud to work alongside the many women across construction and engineering who continue to advance the profession.

From community recreation centers to collegiate athletic facilities, these spaces combine large occupancy areas, high ventilation demands, specialized lighting, natatorium environments, locker rooms, and training spaces — all operating on long daily schedules. Thoughtful mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design helps ensure these facilities remain comfortable, efficient, and reliable for the people using them every day. MODUS has supported communities, universities, and institutions across the region with the design of recreation and athletic facilities built to perform for decades.

Engineers Week is a reminder that engineering is bigger than any one project or firm. It’s a profession built on responsibility — protecting public safety, stewarding resources, and designing systems that serve communities for decades.
