With Medicaid's future now being discussed in Washington, D.C., a new study by our researchers gives hints of what might happen if large numbers of children and young adults lose coverage. It uses pharmacy data from before and after the "unwinding" of pandemic-era Medicaid rules from to look at what happened to young people's access to medicines for ADHD, depression, asthma, epilepsy and psychosis. Those are the kinds of #chronicdisease conditions that need consistent treatment to prevent flare-ups and keep patients on track with school and work: https://michmed.org/923yr

Approximately 25% of women in the United States between ages 45 and 60 are at high risk for breast cancer and should consider preventative medication, such as the commonly prescribed drug tamoxifen. Unfortunately, tamoxifen can cause side effects, including an increased risk for type 2 diabetes in women with excess body weight. In a new study, U-M researchers investigated the combined effects of bazedoxifene and conjugated estrogens in rat models as an alternative to tamoxifen. Learn more at https://michmed.org/923MG.
