Fuelling the quality & quantity of mentoring relationships for America’s young people.

About us

MENTOR is the unifying champion for quality youth mentoring in the United States. Our mission is to expand the quality and quantity of mentoring relationships nationwide. Potential is equally distributed; opportunity is not. A major driver of healthy development and opportunity is whom you know and who’s in your corner. 30 years ago, MENTOR was created to expand that opportunity for young people by building a youth mentoring field and movement. The result: a more than 10-fold increase in young people in Structured mentoring relationships. Today, we are the expert voice representing a movement that is diverse and broad and seeps into every aspect of daily life – meeting young people everywhere they are from schools to workplaces and beyond. Rated as a 4-star organization by Charity Navigator.

🗣️ Hear from our Curriculum & Student Resource Director, Michelle Porter, on her experience at the National Mentoring Summit with MENTOR : “In one session, mentors jumped into hands-on STEM activities...learning how to mentor while actively participating in the projects themselves. In the two activities pictured here, we put our skills to the test. My table partner successfully got her scuba diver to float using only household items! Unfortunately… my scuba diver had other plans and slowly sank to the bottom." 🤿 #mentors #mentoringopportunities #aecindustry

Looking for new tools that will help your mentors have more effective conversations with youth? Check our our new Motivational Interviewing for Mentors Toolkit. Motivational interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based approach designed to support individuals as they contemplate, plan for, and work toward positive changes in their behavior. Mentors will find these approaches helpful in navigating tough conversations and this online training and accompanying toolkit will help both mentors and program staff integrate MI into their work. Black History Month is living, breathing, and being built in real time. 🖤 In downtown Newark, Heritage Hall welcomes the community into a one-of-one mentoring hub co-curated by high school mentees alongside artist + mentor David Byre-Tyre. The space features powerful portraits of HBCU graduates who live or work in Newark—a living gallery of legacy, leadership, and possibility. What’s an HBCU? Historically Black Colleges and Universities are uniquely American institutions whose impact stretches far beyond the classroom—shaping our cultural, intellectual, and political landscape for generations. Heritage Hall is also a place where HBCU graduates across Newark and surrounding areas can celebrate their shared experience—while showing young people what’s possible when community invests in them. Because Black excellence isn’t only history — it’s a future youth deserve to see themselves in, and continue creating through mentorship. "In-person connections remain an essential component in rural mountain communities like the Yampa Valley due to isolation and barriers to accessing resources that residents of more populous areas have." Partners for Youth has been around for almost 30 years and has been serving the communities around Steamboat Springs, CO by helping create strong mentoring relationships. Need a pick-me-up today?
