    "What can MentorcliQ / mentoring do that AI can't since we see all of these new AI mentoring systems?" That was a question Meredith Jackson at McKee Foods Corporation received the other day at the annual Brandon Hall Group awards conference while giving a talk on how McKee's MentorMe program leveraged MentorcliQ to successfully build and grow its gold-award winning leadership development program. The answer is surprisingly simple: AI can help with training, but McKee's 28% employee mobility metric was because AI can't identify and open the doors to those opportunities internally! Too many mentoring software platforms (and B2B SaaS companies, generally) are leaning on AI as a crutch. Employee development and engagement remains a human-based problem that demands a human-led solution. AI helps speed up the process. But AI is not the process. That said, here are 3 important questions to ask when researching a mentoring software solution: 1. Can the platform generate real internal career mobility — not just training — and can you show the measurable outcomes (promotions, internal moves, mobility %) and the process you use to identify and open those opportunities? McKee’s 28% employee-mobility result shows the difference between tools that only train and solutions that open doors internally. AI can surface skills, but the platform + people must create and activate the internal opportunities. 2. How does the matching engine work at enterprise scale, and how does it automate high-quality matches, remove bias, and let admins or program owners influence/override matches? What metrics prove match quality and time-to-match? Automated, unbiased, scalable matching is the functional core of mentoring software. It’s what lets programs include many employees and deliver consistent results. Ask for evidence (reduced admin time, match accuracy, scale examples). 3. What human-led services and success resources come with the software (dedicated success coaches, mentor/mentee training, facilitator-led learning labs, implementation/change management), vs. relying mainly on AI/chatbots? Mentoring is a human problem that needs human-led solutions. AI speeds things up, but customers get different outcomes when a real success team helps design, launch, troubleshoot, and scale programs. Ask for SLAs, examples of hands-on support, and case studies. The process is real, purposeful, human connection and engagement, one conversation at a time. Software helps with structure.
