Pets aren’t just family; they’re big business. The expectation for the US is that owners will spend a total of $157 billion by the end of 2025 and will spend close to $200 billion in 2030. In 2024, U.S. pet owners spent over $28 billion buying pet food and supplies online (up 2.6% year-over-year), with projections of pet e-commerce growing to $60 billion by 2030. To understand the quality of this online experience, we collected UX benchmark metrics on four popular pet websites (Chewy, Petco, PetMeds, and PetSmart). We computed SUPR-Q® and Net Promoter scores, measured users’ attitudes regarding their experiences, conducted key driver analyses, and analyzed reported usability problems. #ux #userexperience #usertesting #uxr #uxresearch #MeasuringU #MUiQ

Banking isn’t limited by borders. No matter what language you speak, there’s a universal need to save and access money, check balances, transfer money, and pay people. What’s also universal with digital banking is the inevitable friction caused by security concerns and troublesome user interfaces. In this SUPR-Q® benchmark survey, we studied the UX of nine international banking websites and apps. #ux #userexperience #uxresearch #uxr #usertesting #MeasuringU #MUiQ

Looking for a compact way to summarize survey results? Try a banner table. Banner tables are well known deliverables in market research but are less well known to UX researchers. In this article, we go through the why and how of banner tables ending with an example created with R script. #ux #userexperience #uxresearch #uxr #usertesting #MeasuringU #MUiQ

The last couple of years have not been easy for those in the UX profession. With an increase in layoffs and AI disruption, uncertainty has grown about job security. How has this uncertainty affected the current satisfaction that UX professionals feel about their job? To measure job satisfaction of UX professionals specifically, we looked to the UXPA salary survey, which has polled practitioners about their salary and job satisfaction since 2014. Participants were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with their current position on a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 being not satisfied at all and 100 being completely satisfied. #ux #userexperience #uxresearch #uxr #usertesting #MeasuringU #MUiQ

Seems like AI is everywhere, including in UX research – but how trustworthy is it, and how can we find out? The landscape of UX research on the use of AI in UX research is wide and largely unexplored. Professional discussion of the role of AI in UX research spans from enthusiastic adoption to doomsaying. We’re more pragmatic at MeasuringU and have an aversion to the extreme attitudes. The Aristotelian golden mean between extremes is part of our company DNA. In this article, we describe a preliminary plan for conducting research that follows up on our previous research and can expand into diverse areas in which there is potential promise and peril when using AI in UX research. #ux #userexperience #usertesting #uxresearch #uxr #MeasuringU #MUiQ

The infographic shows that it would take 17 years (the crossover point in the graph) from the increased salary from a master’s to offset two years of lost income. Those with master’s degrees would have 15 years of salary versus 17 for those without advanced degrees. For PhDs the break-even point doesn’t happen until the 24th year (after 19 years of working). The cumulative income for PhDs didn’t exceed those with master’s degrees until the 31st year (29 years of work for those with master’s degrees, 26 years of work for PhDs). But is there a way to gain the benefits of a master’s or PhD without incurring the lost income? Well, you could pursue advanced degrees while working and not take time out of the workforce. It’s a lot to juggle and not always possible but, if you can, you get the best of both worlds. #ux #userexperience #uxresearch #uxr #usertesting #MeasuringU #MUiQ

Follow the data. Update your beliefs. In this article, we extended a classic Bayesian urn exercise to illustrate one way to apply Bayesian analysis to a UX research context. #ux #userexperience #uxresearch #usertesting #uxr #MeasuringU #MUiQ

Models of delight differ in their details, but most share the general idea that delight is composed of an unexpected positive experience. Various attempts to measure delight also vary in their details (and there are more ways to measure delight than there are models). While academics love to argue about the “right” model, pragmatically, researchers want to know how to measure (and improve) things. The three most common ways of measuring delight use single items, two+ items, and a mix of feelings, but there are also some less common measurement methods. #ux #userexperience #usertesting #MeasuringU #uxr #MUiQ #uxresearch

Why are some researchers so adamant about NOT computing the means of rating scales like the Single Ease Question, recommending the computation of medians instead? In this article, we explain why taking the median of rating scale data is a poor practice. #ux #usertesting #uxresearch #uxr #userexperience #MeasuringU #MUiQ

The famous quality pioneer Edwards Deming said that it will not suffice to have customers who are merely satisfied. And loyalty consultant Fred Reichheld says merely satisfying customers doesn’t lead to loyal customers. Delight goes beyond the hospitality industry. There’s a push to add delight to the user experience of interfaces too. But what exactly is delight? Is delight just the latest buzzword for what people are already doing? Can we think of delight as being on the same continuum as satisfaction, or is it something different? Is delight just exceeding expectations, or is it something more? #ux #userexperience #uxresearch #uxr #usertesting #MeasuringU #MUiQ
