About us

The MassHire Metro North Workforce Board is a public-private partnership whose mission is to enable area residents to gain the skills to maximize their economic self-sufficiency and provide employers with the workforce they need to effectively compete in the changing world economy. As one of 16 local Workforce Development Boards established in Massachusetts by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (recently superseded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014), the Workforce Board was formed to: set local workforce policy, determine how state and federal funds are best used for workforce development, develop partnerships to align the needs of employers to the needs of area residents, and oversee the Metro North One-Stop Career Centers where both job search and employer services are provided. By law, business leaders must constitute a majority of the Board with other members representing education, training, labor and economic development.

What a powerful way to close out Women’s History Month ✨ I’m deeply honored to be part of this work and to pour into the next generation of creatives and entrepreneurs. For me, this is about more than mentorship it’s about creating equitable access, expanding what’s possible, and being intentional in how we show up for young people navigating spaces that weren’t always built for them. Through MadeINcubator and Living Art Boston, we’re committed to building pathways where all creatives regardless of background have the opportunity to be seen, supported, and succeed. The real impact is in those moments when young people recognize their own power, that’s where transformation begins. Grateful to be doing this work with MassHire Metro North Workforce Board and excited for what’s ahead 💫

Meet Taneshia Camillo-Sheffey, Founder and Creative Director of MadeINcubator, Inc and Living Art Boston. Pioneering the first fashion and creative incubator of Boston, mentorship is a natural extension of Camillo-Sheffey's work. This Spring, she is sharing her entrepreneurial expertise with the next generation as a mentor for our New Biz WIOA Youth program. New Biz connects aspiring entrepreneurs with local small business owners who were once in their shoes. Mentorship is the heart of the program, and a defining feature of the model. "I think it is important for a mentor not to just tell the mentee what to do, but to help them realize their own strength, their own power in what they're doing," says Camillo-Sheffey. "That is the best part for me, where their moment is realized." Funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth grant, the second youth-focused cohort is currently underway. Providing 14 weeks of training through the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) “Start It Up” curriculum, local youth are learning business fundamentals, preparing for the Certiport Entrepreneurship and Small Business (ESB) exam, developing a business plan, and learning to pitch their ideas to an audience. We will continue sharing the stories of our NewBiz mentors throughout the duration of this cohort, so stay tuned for more installments of our "Meet the Mentors" series! • Meet Colleen Moran! Colleen has served on the MassHire Metro North Workforce Board since 2019 and has recently completed her term as Board Chair from 2023-2026. She also contributes her leadership to both the Board of Directors and Membership Committees, bringing deep expertise in workforce development, especially in healthcare.   For Colleen, this work is about much more than employment.   “Connecting people with good jobs is very meaningful and rewarding to me. Work is so much more than a paycheck - it provides purpose, social connection, confidence and competence, and a sense of being part of something larger than yourself. Building my career around fostering environments for people to grow in their careers has immense significance for me, that is my purpose.”   Her advice to young women interested in entering her field: “Get involved and build your network. Volunteer for any projects or committee work, attend professional events and sit with people you don't already know. You will learn how to do the tasks in your job description, and you need to learn the landscape as well.”   We’re grateful for Colleen’s leadership and dedication to the employers and jobseekers of Metro North!
