What does every expecting mom need to know? Rhian Valentine asked this question after a life-threatening battle with preeclampsia during her first pregnancy. What began as a routine experience quickly turned into a medical emergency that forced her to deliver 11 weeks early. In this emotional interview, Rhian shares the warning signs she missed, how she learned to advocate for herself, and how low dose aspirin completely changed the outcome of her second pregnancy. Now with March of Dimes, Rhian is on a mission to raise awareness about this deadly threat to moms—and the simple, life-saving measure more women need to know about. If you or someone you love is pregnant or planning to be, this is a must-watch. May is Preeclampsia Awareness Month. In the US, about 1 in 25 pregnancies are affected by preeclampsia—when untreated, preeclampsia can lead to serious complications for both you and your baby, including preterm birth. If you're pregnant or thinking about it, and worried about preeclampsia or other problems, talk to your healthcare provider about low dose aspirin. • We would like to thank Kylie Rowlands Perez for her hard work and dedication as Chair for Miami March for Babies! Kylie is the AVP of Maternal Child at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Working in healthcare, Kylie sees firsthand the impact March of Dimes has on maternal and infant health. “I am proud to be part of a fantastic team at Mount Sinai that lives this mission day in and out, consistently placing moms and babies at the forefront of all that they do. They tirelessly provide care that is evidence-based, of the highest quality, and with the utmost compassion. With the rising rates of maternal and infant mortality, I am beyond honored to come to work each day and witness nurses, doctors, and support staff positively impact outcomes,” says Kylie. We all have a role to play in improving the health of our nation's moms and babies and by joining us this spring at March for Babies you can step up to be an integral piece of creating change. “By simply contributing to the March of Dimes, you are partnering with healthcare providers to support the care they deliver. Your engagement can help reduce prematurity by funding research for innovative treatments, providing education for expectant mothers, and ensuring access to quality healthcare services, says Kylie. If you are local to the Miami area, come out and join Kylie at March for Babies on Saturday May 3rd, 2025! To learn more about the event and to register please visit, https://lnkd.in/eni68-nP

This National Volunteer Week, we give a special shoutout to our volunteers in Texas who shared these special moments from advocating for the health of moms and babies at their state's capitol! These events provide an opportunity for advocates to urge policymakers to pass legislation that can improve the health of moms and babies: https://lnkd.in/g6bGxk3Y #Volunteer #MarchForChange

  • Medicaid is a lifeline for millions of moms and babies—but that lifeline is at risk. Our Interim Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Amanda Williams was recently interviewed by Fierce Healthcare on the impact of these potential cuts. "Many hospitals and clinics—especially those in rural and low-income communities—rely heavily on Medicaid reimbursements to sustain labor and delivery services. Since Medicaid reimburses at lower rates than private insurance, additional funding cuts would force more hospitals to shut down obstetric units, leaving millions of women without nearby maternity care." she said. 🔗Read more from Dr. Williams and other healthcare leaders on what’s at stake: https://lnkd.in/eqYei_HB

Meet Alayna Reyes, Donor Development Specialist for the Western/Central PA market at March of Dimes! As a Donor Development Specialist Alayna focuses on creating meaningful experiences for our supporters and bringing our mission to light for families in the Western/Central PA community .“I have the privilege of building connections with amazing donors and partners who care deeply about healthy moms and babies. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact we’re making—together.” Alayna shared. This July marks two years of Alayna making a difference with March of Dimes, and her passion for our mission and March for Babies is rooted in something deeply personal. As a mom of two, it was an easy "yes" for Alayna to become involved with March for Babies. "I’m incredibly grateful to have had healthy, positive pregnancies—but I know that’s not the experience for everyone. Through my friends and family, I’ve seen how difficult and uncertain pregnancy and childbirth can be. That’s what fuels my passion. I believe every mom and baby deserves the best possible start, and I’m proud to be part of an organization that’s fighting every day to make that a reality.” she said. Thank you Alayna, for all that you do in the Western/Central PA market and we are so happy to have you on our team! 💜 Join Alayna in support of the health of all moms and babies by visiting marchforbabies.org. #marchforbabies #employeespotlight
