Together, we create life-changing wishes for Michigan children with critical illnesses.

About us

Make-A-Wish® Michigan's mission: Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a critical illness. This one belief guides us in everything we do at Make-A-Wish. It inspires us to grant life-changing wishes for children going through so much. It compels us to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives us to make our donated resources go as far as possible. Most of all, it's the founding principle of our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child. Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved—wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy.

  • It all started with one wish.💫 The first wish granted, in 1980 to Christopher in Arizona who wish to be a police officer, sparked a movement that has now reached hundreds of thousands of children. Every wish that followed reminded us what hope can do. On World Wish Day, we celebrate the very first wish and the many more you can help make possible. Together, we can keep creating moments that change lives forever. 💙 michigan.wish.org (link in bio)

  • 💙💙💙

Look up! For real! Look up! Many times, when your eyes are guided above a wish kid's head, you see a wish parent's eyes. Those eyes tell a story that many of us can't even begin to understand. Of course, we can try to empathize, but many of us still don't get it. What I notice in their eyes during their child's wish experience is something that fuels me. It's hard to fully describe, but it's love, hope, and a moment of just being while feeling joy. It's feeling overwhelmed, finally, with something not bad. It's a moment they don't forget. I remember one time watching a big, tough-looking wish dad as a single tear fell from his eye during his kid's wish. That moment is stuck on replay in my head. That moment is exactly why an amazing woman with some amazing supporters founded Make-A-Wish. It's our everything. Picture for a second what he was feeling in that moment! Please know wishes are not gifts. Wishes are so much more. We have the stats to show that they help reduce trauma and support a child's mental well-being (and their parents' too). I know life is more expensive than ever before right now, but I also know our referrals are up at our chapter, and our average Disney wish is up $800 in flight costs. So today I ask you to please make a gift. If you're able, please do it now. A wish is waiting for your love and kindness to be granted. My personal, aggressive goal is to raise $5,000 in the next 16 days for our walk event. Please support our kids (who could be any of ours in the blink of an eye) and me. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/grxtv8MB Ps- Pictured below are two more moments that are the reason wishes matter. They are little unplanned moments with wish kids! Austin on the left: we were chatting and laughing outside the Home Alone movie house during his wish. He was teaching me about life. Truly. He’s so smart! James on the right: my buddy! This kid. I don’t have words for his strength. He really is my hero. This was after he shared his story on stage. An unexpected hug and conversation about the impact sharing his story had on him. These kids need us. Help here: https://lnkd.in/grxtv8MB
