About us

Major League Hacking (MLH) is a 500k+ global member community empowering the next generation of developers to learn through hackathons and the Open Source MLH Fellowship. MLH partners with software engineering, human capital management, Open Source, and DevRel leaders who wish to support the developers of tomorrow. Is that you? Start a conversation and learn more at https://sponsor.mlh.io/ The MLH Open Source Fellowship is a remote 12-week, stipended internship alternative. Diverse and highly-deserving early-career software engineers pair with companies doing their part to sustain Open Source software, including Meta, GitHub, AWS, G-Research, Mathworks, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and more. The independent jurists of the DevRel Awards recognized the MLH Fellowship with the distinction for "Best Developer Education Initiative." Fellow alumni have had their contributions merged into noteworthy Open Source projects and have gone on to work for the most well-regarded software companies. Learn more: https://fellowship.mlh.io/partners In addition to the MLH Fellowship, MLH powers over 200 weekend-long invention competitions as the official student hackathon league every year. These inspire innovation, cultivate communities, and teach computer science skills to more than 500,000 worldwide. Want to participate? Start here: https://mlh.io/event-membership B Corp MLH has been a community-first, mission-driven organization from the beginning. We measure our success by the number of hackers we empower, and we want to keep it that way. That's why we made it official and became a Certified B Corporation in 2016. B Corps are for-profit enterprises legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their community, not just their shareholders. Learn more: https://mlh.io/about

  • Building a tech community isn't always about high-level algorithms- sometimes, it’s about roaming a hackathon floor in a dinosaur costume to keep the energy up. 🦖 David Ulloa, an MLH Top 50 hacker from Florida International University, has spent his college career proving that South Florida is a rising hub for tech talent. As the past president of INIT, he helped lead ShellHacks, connecting hundreds of students with career-defining mentorship and internships at companies like Microsoft and Google. David’s impact is personal: he saw how tech changed his own father's life and decided to make that same opportunity accessible to everyone around him. Between organizing year round career prep programs and mastering deep learning with Jax, he’s consistently shown that the best way to move forward is to bring your community with you. Now headed to Google full-time after graduation, David remains a champion for "building in public" and lifting others up. Congratulations on the Top 50, David! Your dedication to South Florida tech is just getting started.

  • Did you know? Together, MLH and DEV will reach roughly 10% of the world’s software engineers. 🌍 ⭐️ 200+ Annual Hackathons 🏆 ⭐️ 10 Million+ Monthly Visitors 📈 ⭐️ One shared mission: Helping you level up. We are ready to open the door for an entirely new generation of creators.

  • In a world of automated replies and AI-generated reviews, Han Rodríguez found that the most powerful tool for building a community was actually a simple pen and paper. 📝✨ While leading student initiatives at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Han became known for leaving handwritten feedback on resume reviews for freshmen. That small, human gesture helped turn a quiet club forum into a vibrant, inclusive space where everyone felt they belonged. Han’s own story is one of incredible growth: ➡️ The Visionary: He co-founded Guadalahacks, growing it into the largest student-led hackathon in Western México. ➡️ The Global Career: From an MLH Production Engineering Fellowship to internships at Intel and Microsoft, he’s now working full-time in Seattle while pursuing an MSE in AI at the University of Pennsylvania. ➡️ The Mentor: Even from halfway across the continent, he remains a dedicated sponsor and mentor for the next generation of hackers back home. Whether he's debugging Python or helping a student land their first internship, Han leads with a heart for his community. Congratulations on the Top 50, Han! Your journey from a shy student to a global leader is a massive inspiration.

I'm thrilled to announce that DEV (Forem) is joining Major League Hacking, an organization that values communities as much as we do. For those unfamiliar with MLH, they've built something remarkable: a developer programs platform that has reached over a million developers through in-person hackathons, fellowship programs, and community events all over the world. MLH excels at creating spaces where people don't just talk about building, they actually build. They learn new tools by using them, tackle real problems, and grow their skills alongside peers. Joining forces means we’re expanding the way people are introduced to, learn, and excel at building software. DEV has always been about knowledge sharing through articles, discussions, and the collective wisdom of our community. MLH creates intense, hands-on experiences where you experiment with new technologies and build community face-to-face. Together, we're bridging the gap between online and offline. It is extremely rare and special for two organizations to be so value-aligned and complementary. I am so excited to work with fellow founders Mike Swift and 💻 Jonathan Gottfried, alongside Ben Halpern and Peter Frank. Now that we are all together, it genuinely feels like our work is just getting started. To our wonderful community members: thank you. I’m looking forward to bringing back and introducing new initiatives for all of you to enjoy. You can expect product improvements, new programs, and lots of creativity in the coming weeks and months as our minds start to meld on how best to serve the community. ❤️ Read the full announcement here: https://lnkd.in/g_Y7MTvK
