Lume 🤝 Cardinal Gray Check out how we helped Cardinal Gray speed up data implementation timelines by 13x!

    View profile for Robert Ross

    Co-Founder @ Lume | CS @ Stanford | Forbes 30u30

One of the most impressive outcomes we’ve seen recently - how Cardinal Gray (YC S23) cut data implementation timelines and time-to-value by 13x using Lume AI. ⚡ Their team had a massive challenge: mapping customer data from different Loan Management Systems (LMS) into hundreds of standardized schemas required for DMV titling compliance. Varying data models. All structured differently. All needing to be normalized, transformed, and piped into tightly-defined schemas for downstream DMV titling compliance workflows. Before Lume, this meant months of mapping work by engineers - a clear bottleneck to scaling. That’s where Lume came in. Cardinal Gray implemented our AI-powered data mapping platform and went from a projected 5-month rollout to a 6-week launch. 🚀 We helped them use AI to build and manage hundreds of mapping pipelines, and build the scaffolding to manage and evolve the mapping pipelines as customer data and compliance schemas changed and evolved. -> No more hand-coding and mapping from customer Loan Management Systems to hundreds of compliance data schemas. -> No more fragile integrations between customer and end data models. -> Just scalable, reliable data mapping - and a faster path to market. “What once was going to take 5 months took us 6 weeks with Lume.” Cardinal Gray has now got to market faster, freeing up engineering time, and scaling to hundreds of standardized documents without increasing manual effort. Super proud of this partnership, and proud to have gotten to know the killer team behind the Cardinal Gray - led by Jack Chapman, Muhammad Khattak, and Grant Pease. -- full case study in the comments👇

"Look, let's skip the intros. I've had some horrors with data migration—let me give you the lowdown." That’s how the COO kicked off our Lume (YC W23) intro call. No small talk. No warm-up. Just straight to the pain. This COO leads customer data implementations for his SaaS company, and you could hear the frustration in his voice. And honestly? I love it, because you know it's real. Talk about a "hair on fire" problem. Lots to do still, it's a large problem. But we're chipping away at it little by little.

This snippet is all you need to integrate Lume into your code ... why do our customers embed Lume in their code? Well, with Lume, users visually create mappers to transform incoming data—no manual coding needed. Once deployed, these mappers can be embedded directly into your app. This helps with integrating with customer data, vendors, or APIs, that may be running through your code base or Jupyter notebooks. Now, with SDK 5.0, reusing mappers is 1 line -- flow.process() ✅ Access the right mapper ✅ Send raw data, get back formatted output ✅ Send anywhere—your app, database, & more Bonus: Lume detects schema changes and alerts your team with update suggestions. Want a demo? Drop a comment or reach out!

    Welcome, Collin!

I'm excited to welcome Collin Montag as Lume (YC W23)'s founding engineer! Collin joined the company about 6 months back from Google’s Pub/Sub team, and he’s been fundamental Lume's growth. He’s a swiss-army knife, leading infrastructure, AI, customer support, and many other efforts at the company. When we met Collin, we immediately knew he was a fit and a 1/1 candidate. He wanted to work on very hard problems and have extreme ownership and leadership over Lume’s direction. Since joining, he redesigned our entire infrastructure from scratch. Our customer’s CTO, recognizing how complex Lume’s data infrastructure must be, was shocked one person built it. This person is Collin. Most importantly, Collin is an upstanding person. He’s a pleasure to be around, and it’s an honor to work alongside him. Excited to have you onboard (and officially announced many months later 😄)! ---- And, we're still hiring! If you'd like to join the Lume's eng team, we have a Full Stack Engineer position (front end focused), among others, open (link in comments).

Our CEO Robert Ross giving a keynote speech at National Society of Black Engineers!

    View profile for Robert Ross

    Co-Founder @ Lume | CS @ Stanford | Forbes 30u30

Towards the end of last year, I had the privilege to give a keynote speech at the National Society of Black Engineers Fall Regional Conference. My talk focused on a topic I love to opine on: the art of risk taking. In a world that's constantly evolving - especially in AI - standing still is often the riskiest move of all. Taking bold, calculated risks is how we innovate and thrive in uncertain times. At Lume (YC W23), we fully embrace this mindset by placing big bets this year--and we're hiring too! I'd love to hear from you: what risks are you planning to take in the New Year?

We're hiring at Lume! Help us add more awesome books like this one to our coffee table (and, more importantly, build extremely robust AI infrastructure and apps).

Our team did an office redesign, and the ONLY decoration on top of our coffee table is … Designing Data-Intensive Applications 😂🛠️ Our founding engineer Collin Montag brought this on his first day of work, and it is just a small symbol of the unreal impact he would have at our company. He redesigned our entire infrastructure from scratch. Our customer’s CTO, recognizing how complex Lume (YC W23)’s data infrastructure must be, was shocked one person built it. Kudos to Collin for being 1/1, and for the light reading available to us during our breaks!
