A small component. A major milestone. Connecting the LINAC, booster, and accumulator ring brings ALS-U one step closer to delivering brighter, more powerful X-ray beams for the scientific community. Congratulations to Sol Omolayo and the entire team on this important step forward for our Advanced Light Source! 🎉
This may look trivial and boring BUT ! what you see below is the installation of what we call the "Golden Bellow". This small little vacuum component connects the vacuums from our new accumulator ring to the systems that generate and initially accelerate electrons for photon production. We now have a continuous beam path from the LINAC through the booster and round the Accumulator Ring. The old-world to the new ! This is a small but important step in completing ALS-U, the upgrade of the Advanced Light Source at Berkeley Lab. A facility and project sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science Congrats Sol Omolayo (head of Vacuum group), Congrats team and congrats for a successful winter 2026 shutdown !
