in 2022, Diego Rodriguez Prado and I started Krea. but the story actually starts years earlier, with me making music. my first creative outlet – and how i spent most of my teenage years – was making and producing music. then at UPF in Barcelona, I got into programming. i met Diego there through a group of friends, and pretty early on he sent me Andrew Ng's AI course, which sent me down the rabbit hole. generative models were especially interesting because they brought together 2 things i already cared about: technology and making stuff. so I started reading research papers, training models, working in tools like Artbreeder, and building a lot of random experiments. the problem was that creating with these models was painful. there weren't really good interfaces for artists. if you wanted any control, you were mostly working in python or colab. so I started building interfaces for myself. around then I was working with my friend Javier Ideami on a project called Geniverse, an early attempt at making generative models much more interactive. at the same time, Diego and I had started talking about building something together. i showed him Geniverse, and he got really interested in how it worked. at some point, I sent him a 6-hour video of me coding it. not long after, Diego was applying to an accelerator called HF0. when they asked what he was building, he showed them Geniverse. he hadn't told me he was doing this lol. after a few calls, HF0 invited us to Miami and gave us the chance to spend 3 months working on Geniverse full-time. it was an opportunity to see how far we could take it. we went for it, and that eventually became Krea. we kept working on the same problem I'd been trying to solve for myself: making AI easier to use and giving creatives more control. at first, that meant building better interfaces on top of other people's models. since then, we've built a research team, started training our own image models, and now we're working on agents that can use creative tools and actually do work for you. 4 years later, we're still basically building the tools we want to use ourselves. p.s. going to post more here about AI, creative tools, and what we're building at Krea.
