About us

KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, is a national network of free, open enrollment college preparatory public schools. There are 255 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia, educating more than 110,000 students with more than 15,000 KIPP alumni currently attending college. Nationally, KIPP alumni are graduating from college at 3x the rate of their peers. KIPP Columbus, the only set of KIPP schools in Ohio, was founded in 2008 with 50 students in the 5th grade and now educates more than 2,000 students infant - 12th grade. KIPP Columbus continues to rank as one of the top five schools for academic growth of any school in the state of Ohio, and is a top performing urban school in the state for academic growth. In our first and second classes of graduating high school seniors in the spring of 2020 and 2021, 100% of students were accepted to college and/or military with over $30 million in merit scholarships from colleges and universities earned. Together with families and the community, KIPP creates joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose -- college, career, and beyond.

  • Exciting milestone at KIPP Columbus! ♟️ Last week, we hosted our inaugural Middle School Chess Tournament, fostering critical thinking, patience, and strategic problem-solving among our scholars. A special thank you to Kathy Lin, Executive Director of the Columbus Chess Academy and a respected National Tournament Director, for serving as our arbiter and helping create such an authentic tournament experience for our students. Partnerships like these help ensure our KIPPsters have access to enriching opportunities and inspiring community leaders who expand what they believe is possible. Congratulations to all of our participants who stepped up to the board with confidence, perseverance, and sportsmanship. We are so proud of you! ♟️👏

  • This morning, our middle school welcomed two very special furry visitors — CPD therapy dogs Bohdi and Maverick! 🐾 Students had the opportunity to spend time with the dogs, learn about their training, and connect with Chief Bryant and the officers who joined the visit. The excitement and joy throughout the building was incredible to see! We are deeply grateful for the continued partnership and support from the Columbus Division of Police. Thank you for showing up for our students and school community in such meaningful ways! 💙

  • Last week, we hosted one of our favorite annual traditions — Tacos and Ties! 🌮👔 Our 2nd grade young men celebrated the end of the school year by learning the important skill of tying a tie from incredible male role models across our team. Along the way, they also enjoyed plenty of tacos, laughter, and fun together! This special event is a celebration of the ways our students live out our INSPIRE values each and every day. We are so proud of our soon-to-be 3rd graders and all of the growth, leadership, and confidence they continue to show. 💙💚

  • Last week, KIPP Columbus was proud to host our second annual Safety Day! 🚓🚒 Our K–5 KIPPsters had the opportunity to engage with safety partners from across Central Ohio - shout out to the Columbus Police Department, Columbus Fire Department, Mifflin Fire Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and more for making this event possible - we are grateful! This event creates space for students to build positive connections with first responders, learn about the important services they provide, ask LOTS of great questions, and explore future career pathways. A special thank you to our KIPP Columbus High School National Honor Society students, who volunteered their time to support the day and help make it a meaningful experience for our younger KIPPsters. We’re grateful to our partners and student leaders for showing up for our community in such a powerful way! 💙

  • Big day for our 4th graders! 🎉 We were honored to welcome Columbus City Mayor Andrew Ginther to KIPP Columbus, where students got a behind-the-scenes look at leadership in action, enjoyed a story, and asked some incredible questions.
