Three mistakes defense contractors consistently make with CMMC — and what it costs them: 1. Thinking self-attestation is enough. For most Level 2 contracts handling CUI, it isn't. You need a C3PAO. Companies still planning to self-attest for contracts that require third-party verification are going to lose work. 2. Starting too late. Remediation takes 9–12 months.
