One of the biggest misconceptions about AI in agencies is that it magically makes everyone better. It doesn’t. AI is a multiplier, a multiplier of what already exists. Multiplying strong thinkers becomes more effective. Multiplying weak thinking becomes louder noise. The agencies enjoying AI right now are not just automating tasks. They already had strategic clarity, strong talent, operational discipline, differentiated thinking, clear positioning, and good judgment. AI is great at amplifying that because it already exists. But when agencies have weak positioning, mediocre thinking, bloated workflows, or commodity-level output layer AI on top, they often just produce more forgettable work at a higher velocity. And who wants that? That’s the hidden risk in all this “AI productivity” conversation. More output does not automatically create more value. In many cases, AI is becoming the great illuminator of weaknesses that were already there. The multiplier only adds value if there’s something worth multiplying.
