Here’s the team behind what is arguably my favourite conference of the year. There were more than a few debates on whether it was a good idea to go ahead with this event, given, of course, the current situation. But I am so, so glad we did. For a few hours this morning, the room felt like a little pocket of normal life again. And even better, it brought together women from every stage of their careers, early starters, senior leaders, and everyone in between. Huge credit to this team, who proved that when there’s real passion behind something, you somehow find a way to make it happen. And to everyone who joined us at the #WomenInConstruction Conference this morning, thank you. Your presence, your questions, and your conversations are what move this industry forward. I hope you left with a few ideas, a few new connections, and maybe even the confidence to pass today’s lessons on to your colleagues, mentors, and mentees. Over the past few days I’ve been watching how parts of the international media have covered the UAE, and I keep coming back to the same question: have we learned nothing from the pandemic? Crisis reporting carries enormous responsibility. Information can save lives, but information without proportion can fuel panic. Which raises a question journalists should ask in moments like this: what is the intention of the reporting? Is it to inform the public, or amplify fear? The UAE is a country full of expats, and millions of residents here have families watching events unfold from abroad in real-time. When headlines portray Dubai as if it has suddenly become a war zone, the reaction overseas is predictable. Parents, spouses, friends and relatives are calling people here in tears, panicking over what they are reading in international media coverage. Yet if you live here, the picture is far more nuanced. Local media has focused on service journalism: verified updates, safety guidance, airspace changes, school closures, flight resumptions and the practical information residents actually need. Local outlets here have done an exceptional job by prioritising clarity over spectacle. Much of the international coverage, however, has leaned toward something else: narratives about “panicked influencers”, insinuations that residents are too afraid to speak honestly, and a steady drip of schadenfreude about the supposed collapse of Dubai’s “safe haven”. Which brings us back to intention. What exactly are we trying to do here? Inform readers, or provoke panic? Journalists often talk about holding power to account. Fair enough. But accountability runs both ways. My latest column on journalism, responsibility, service reporting in times of crisis, and why proportion, context and intention matter as much as speed. With March marking International Women’s month, we approached Facilities Management Middle East's latest issue with intention. We knew we didn’t want a token cover. We wanted someone who represents womanhood and the facilities management industry in equal measure. Someone who has done the work, shown up consistently, and built credibility along the way. To us, that is Andrea Yoko! Many in the industry already know her. She is present. At events. On panels. In conversations that matter. But what stands out to me is not just how often she is in the room, but how she carries herself in it. Her journey is marked by resilience, humour, and a refusal to back down. At one point, she told us, “If someone tells me not to do something, I’ll go do it and take pictures!” That energy? It explains a lot. :) Once again, the Women in FM feature takes centre stage in this issue. Not as a seasonal gesture. Not as a box to tick. Simply because the stories deserve space. Our industry values performance, accountability, and results. The women featured in these pages embody all three. Consider this the official record. Beyond these, don’t miss our special report on the FM market in Qatar. We ran polls. We listened. We gathered first-hand insight from professionals on the ground. What’s working? What’s shifting? Where are the pressure points? The result is a snapshot of a market that continues to move with purpose. As always, this publication is a two-way conversation. If you’re enjoying the issue (or even if you’re not), write to me. Tell me what you want more of. Until then, meet our cover star. Read her story. And maybe, just maybe, take a few pictures along the way, especially if someone tells you not to. 😉 Read the digital magazine here: https://lnkd.in/dwJjbgsA Thanks to the team, as always: Akshata Kamath, Angitha Pradeep, Tofiq S Memon, Amjad Ayche, Thomas Shambler, Vinay Ravindran, Anup Nagpurkar, Balasubramanian P ITP Media Group

A strange week to be running events in Dubai. But it was business as usual for us at ITP Media Group today. Our Construction Week online Women in Construction event was packed. Strong conversations, a full room, and a clear reminder that this industry keeps showing up even in uncertain times. Huge credit to the team who made it happen, especially editor Julianne Tolentino who continues to push this very important conversation forward.
