A new CSIS study suggests China is fundamentally changing how satellites operate in geosynchronous orbit. Instead of remaining fixed in predictable orbital slots, a growing number of Chinese satellites are conducting persistent maneuvering, relocations, and proximity operations across GEO. The shift signals a move toward a more dynamic, operationally flexible, and strategically ambiguous approach to orbital competition. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eay_rtsm

A new report details how China’s evolving surveillance architecture is moving beyond traditional CCTV networks toward highly integrated “holistic profiles” capable of tracking individuals through travel records, facial recognition, mobile payments, social relationships, and behavioral patterns in near real-time. The report highlights growing concerns over predictive policing, automated relationship mapping, and the increasing use of AI-driven systems to monitor foreign nationals, journalists, and targeted populations. New analysis from COMSPOC highlights how Pakistan’s growing remote sensing constellation may be optimized specifically for South Asian ISR coverage. By combining electro-optical, SAR, and hyperspectral satellites in carefully selected orbital geometries, Pakistan appears to be building a layered day-and-night collection architecture focused on India, Kashmir, and surrounding regions. The constellation also reflects the increasing role China is playing in enabling allied space capabilities. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eay_rtsm

The Pentagon has selected five companies as winners in its Drone Dominance “Lethality Prize Challenge,” an initiative designed to rapidly scale lethal payloads for small unmanned systems. The selected firms — including Northrop Grumman and several emerging drone startups — could now gain accelerated certification pathways and access to large-scale future procurement opportunities tied to the Defense Department’s push for mass-produced attritable drones. The program reflects growing urgency across the military to field low-cost autonomous strike systems at scale. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eeAm7S6m

China’s rapid deployment of large LEO constellations is creating mounting concerns over long-lived orbital debris. According to analysis featured in this issue, Chinese upper stages now account for the overwhelming majority of newly abandoned rocket body mass in high-altitude LEO orbits. Several LM-6A upper stages have already fragmented on orbit, creating dangerous debris fields that could threaten the long-term sustainability of space operations.
