Yesterday, Independence Construction attended the Mayor’s Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) Community Impact Awards, which recognizes organizations helping support Cleveland’s local economy. We were honored to receive the General Contractor of the Year award and spend the evening with our West Side Market partner, The AKA Team. One of the most meaningful parts of the night was hearing from Semaj Singleton. She joined Independence Construction through the Cleveland Job Builds program and shared her journey as an example of workforce development in action. Exciting progress continues at the iconic West Side Market, Cleveland Public Market Corporation, as work advances across multiple phases of the project. Interior excavation and underground utilities are underway, setting the groundwork for what’s next, while roofing restoration continues with full scaffolding in place. To keep vendors open during construction, temporary cooling units have been installed in the butcher shops to maintain proper temperatures, allowing businesses to continue operating without interruption.
