The Philippines Just Clarified How Casino Jackpots Are Taxed and Operators Need to Take Note 📋 BIR Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 57-2026 confirms casino jackpots and gambling winnings are subject to final withholding tax, effective immediately 💰 Resident taxpayers pay 20% final withholding tax on gross winnings. Nonresident aliens not engaged in trade or business in the Philippines pay 25% 🚫 No deductions allowed the tax base is the full gross prize amount, with no offsets for service charges, admin fees or commissions 🎰 Coverage is broad fixed jackpots, progressive jackpots, slot machines, table games, bingo and electronic gaming machines all fall under the circular ⚠️ The rules apply to both licensed and unlicensed operators income is taxable regardless of whether the paying operator holds a valid licence 🔒 BIR Commissioner Mendoza has warned operators and withholding agents of immediate penalties for non-compliance No deductions. Brazil's Betting Market Generated R$3.4bn in Federal Tax in Q1 2026 up 123.7% Year-on-Year 📅 January led with R$1.49bn, February dropped 30.2% to R$1.04bn, March fell a further 17.4% to R$859M a 42% decline across the quarter worth watching 📈 Full year 2025 collected R$9.95bn in betting tax, against pre-regulation forecasts of just R$3 to R$5bn ⚖️ Tax rate changes under Complementary Law 224/2025 will push GGR tax from 12% to 15% by 2028 but the Q1 impact has not yet shown up in the data 🚔 A new presidential decree will divert 3% of betting tax to the Federal Police fund from 2028, rising progressively from 1% in 2026 🗳️ All of this is happening while Workers' Party Bill PL-1808/2026 pushes to repeal the entire regulatory framework Brazil is collecting billions from betting and simultaneously debating whether to ban it.
